If you’ve already had enough from the cold and snow, follow the events of the World Surf League which will definitely remind you of the summer. The new season has already started last December with the first race in Hawaii. The WSL Men’s Champion 2021 odds favor two-time world champion John John Florence but he will face a tough competition from other top surfers.
The 2021 new World Surf League season is promised to be a special year with new locations and a great place for the finals in September. As one of the most famous surfing places, the Lower Trestles in San Clemente, California will host it. With the top five men and women surfers competing for the title in the last event. But before that surfers will take part in the remaining 10 stops of the tournament. With the next one, the Sunset Open taking place in Oahu, Hawaii, another significant place of the sport. After the cancellation of last season, the best surfers will join the tour again and fight for the title. From them the champions of the last three seasons are mentioned as top favorites, let’s see them now.
Two-time champion Florence tops the WSL Men’s Champion 2021 odds
John John Florence is one of the most dominant surfers of the sport after winning back-to-back WSL titles in 2016 and 2017. The Hawaii-born surfer was suffering with injuries in 2019 and had to miss most part of the season. He still qualified for the Olympic Games though and will represent the US team on the sport’s Olympic debut. But surely Florence wants to get back to the top and fight for another WSL title this season. He started this season with a win in Billabong Pipeline Masters, which is a great sign of his current form. Online sportsbooks in Brazil offer the odds of 4.33 for his victory.
His main rivals can be the two Brazilian champions, Gabriel Medina and Italo Ferreira. Medina won the league in 2018 for the second time after his first victory in 2014. He has been surfing in the top league since 2011, when he joined the tournament at the age of only 17. Since then he has won 14 events and finished four more times on the podium at the end of the season. Medina spent most of last year in Brazil. He is still considered as a major contestant in the WSL Men’s Champion 2021 odds.
The 2019 champion and a rookie are also in the favorites
Online gambling sites in Brazil also mention the 2019 champion, Italo Ferreira in the favorites to win with the odds of 6.00. The Brazil surfer won his maiden title two years ago after finishing fourth in the previous season. Now the 26-year-old will try to defend his title and perform well at the Olympics. Where he will represent Brazil along with Medina. His start of the season wasn’t going too well though after getting injured in the Pipeline Masters in Hawaii. Hopefully he will be luckier in the next race.
One of the biggest questions of the season is the performance of Jack Robinson who is taking part in his first WSL season. The young Australian won the 2019 Vans World Cup of Surfing at Sunset and qualified for the league last year. After the cancellation of last season he is going to take part in his first full season in 2021. But after his previous results and great technique, Robinson is already a favorite to win the title. He has the odds of 13.00 on bet365.
