British heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury stripped of IBF title after refused to defend the belt.
Tyson Fury won the IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight championship belts against Wladimir Klitshcko in November. The 27-year-old defeated the Ukrainian on points by a unanimous decision. IBF was about to schedule a title defending bout against mandatory challenger Vyacheslav Glazkov, however the Briton refused to take part due to a rematch vs Klitschko. Therefore was Fury stripped of IBF title, UK gambling news report.
Fury Stripped of IBF title because of Fury vs Klitschko II
“It’s true he’s been stripped of his IBF belt,” confirmed the news Lindsey Tucker, who is championships Chairman at IBF. “Our challenger was Vyacheslav Glazkov, but instead Fury’s gone and signed a rematch clause with Wladimir Klitschko.”
There was a rematch clause in the contract about the Fury vs Klitschko fight, and the Ukrainian, who was undefeated for 11 years before he was beaten by Fury, recently announced that he will activate it. Fury accepted that instead of defending his IBF title against Glazkov, another Ukrainian fighter.
The Fury vs Klitschko II will be held in 2016, but the date is undecided yet.
Tyson Fury bio
Tyson Fury was born in Wythenshawe, Manchester in 1988. He was eligible to represent both Ireland and England but he refused to represent Ireland at the Beijing Olympics. He turned pro that year, starting a career that has 25 wins, 18 K.O.s and no defeat so far, as many of those who bet on sports in UK know.
Fury is orthodox in his stance and in his views too. He got involved recently in controversies about his comments on gay people as well as on abortion. He was also a controversial figure in the build-up to the Fury vs Klitschko I fight, arrogantly criticizing his counterpart, however he was polite and emotional after the bout was over. He was nominated to the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award.
