Three Indonesian Ministries Will Collaborate to End Illegal Gambling

Recent Indonesia gambling news report that the country’s government is devising a major battle against illegal online gambling. The upcoming effort will see three ministries collaborating together to achieve the best possible results.

First, the Communications and Information Technology Ministry will physically block local players from accessing online gambling sites. This was confirmed by Ashwin Sasongko, the ministry’s informatics applications chief.

He also noted that the Social Affairs Ministry and the Religious Affairs Ministry will also be involved in the attempt to uphold Indonesian gambling laws.

Ashwin Sasongko had the following comments: “We will ask the Social Affairs Ministry to assess whether the services provided are indeed online gambling or merely online games. Should that ministry decide that something is an online gambling website, we will ban the URL.”

Ashwin also mentioned that not only illegal online casinos in Indonesia will be blocked, but websites providing door prizes and free lotteries as well.

The Social Affairs Ministry’s social protection and security chief, Andi Za Dulung, revealed that his ministry, the Religious Affairs Ministry as well as the Indonesia Ulema Council are planning to assess license requests for free lotteries operation.

The Ministry issues around 8,000 such licenses annually according to Andi, who also noted that “some misuse the licenses to provide online gambling instead.”

This is not the first time the Indonesian government attempts to tackle the problem of illegal gambling, but this time around it seems like a comprehensive approach should yield positive results.
