However, only a few of such stories have become legends in gambling circles. The following list is a small of collection of the most outrageous, unbelievable and straight-up crazy gambling stories.
FedEx and blackjack
The gambling story of the Frederick Smith, founder and CEO of FedEx, is probably the most well-known of all the crazy gambling stories. Without blackjack, the company would probably not even exist today. A few years after its founding, FedEx was millions of dollars in debt due to rising fuel prices. When there was only USD 5,000 on the company’s account Smith, in an all-or-nothing decision, withdrew it to try his luck at the blackjack tables in Las Vegas. After one week, he returned to the company’s headquarter with USD 27,000. Smith considered the win as a good sign, which helped him to fight harder for the company and to turn it into the success that what we know today.
The 8-year-old who won USD 500,000 on poker
The story of the 8-year-old poker prodigy, Ashish Nanak, who won USD 500,000 on online poker, was spreading on Facebook like wildfire. According to
Indian gambling news, Aashish was playing in an online poker tournament and ended up winning the life-changing USD 500,000 first prize. Unfortunately, when the online poker room found out about his age, they declined to pay out the winnings. The family decided to take the case to court, arguing that the site’s staff had no problems with the boy’s age until he won big. They claim that the online poker room’s staff knew about the boy’s age, what’s more, they even nicknamed him as ‘little poker wizard.’
The ultimate bet
After some drinks at a bar, Ashley Revell was daydreaming with his friends about betting everything on one spin in Las Vegas. The idea could not leave Revell’s mind so he decided to sell all of his belongings. After six months, he turned all he owned to money, ending up with USD 136,000 in cash. Revell flew to Vegas and put all his money on red at the Roulette table. “That spin was the most amazing moment of my life. It is a cliché but time did stand still,” he recalls. The ball ended up on 7, red. Revell left the casino with USD 272,000. “Since then my lifestyle has completely changed. I’m now pretty boring,” he says. Revell used a part of the sum to travel around Europe. In Holland he met his wife and is now a father of two.
