Paddy Power has already set the odds, so let’s take a look at the three biggest golf tournaments to bet on in 2017.
We’re only a few months into 2017, and already a number of major golf tournaments have taken place. Justin Johnson has emerged as one of the top golfers so far this year with wins in the Genesis Open, WGC-Mexico Championship, and the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. Now, we look ahead to some of the biggest golf tournaments to bet on later in the year.
Bet on the Shell Houston Open
On March 30th, the Shell Houston Open will officially begin. The aforementioned Dustin Johnson recently made UK gambling news by announcing he will not be competing in the event, citing fatigue as the reason for his withdrawal, but many of the other top golfers in the world will be taking part.
2017 PGA Championship Dates
- Masters Tournament: April 6-9
- US Open: June 15-18
- Open Championship: July 20-23
At the top of the betting odds is 23 year old Jordan Spieth, who’s also had a successful 2017 thus far by winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Spieth already has 9 PGA Tour wins to his name, including both the Masters Tournament and U.S. Open in 2015. Spieth’s odds to win the Houston Open are set at 13/2.
Jon Rahm, Spain’s top golfer, is the second highest Houston Open betting favorite with odds of 10/1. Rahm only turned professional in 2016, and is considered by many golf betting experts to be the top prospect in the sport. A few other great betting options include Ricky Fowler with odds of 14/1 and Henrik Stenson with odds of 14/1.
Bet on the Masters Tournament
The Masters is considered by most to be the most prestigious golfing event in the world, and is without a doubt one of the biggest golf tournaments to bet on this year. There are some incredible story lines heading into this year’s Masters. Tiger Woods is returning and Phil Mickelson attempting to win at 46 years of age.
The 2017 Masters betting favorite is Dustin Johnson. As we stated before, Johnson is leading the world golf standings this year and seems on track to win at least one major PGA title. At the moment, Paddy Power lists Johnson’s odds to win the Masters are set at 11/2.
Phil Mickelson will be looking to win the Masters at the same age Jack Nicklaus did. Mickelson hasn’t won a major PGA Championship since 2013, but is still competing with the very best. As of now, Mickelson’s odds to win the Masters are set at 25/1. Tiger Woods is now recovered from back surgery, and will be looking to make a triumphant comeback this year at the Masters. His odds to win are set at 80/1.
Bet on the US Open
The last addition to our list of the biggest golf tournaments to bet on in 2017 is the US Open. This year’s event will take place in Erin, Wisconsin and is offering a 1st place purse of $2.1 million. The 2017 US Open betting odds are similar to the Masters odds, with a few notable exceptions.
Nearly all online sportsbooks in the UK list Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Jason Day as the top betting favorites with odds of 8/1. Jordan Spieth is right behind them with odds of 9/1.
A few great US Open betting underdogs are Bubba Watson with odds of 33/1, and Tiger Woods with odds of 50/1. Anything can happen in golf, and a bet on the underdogs here could earn you some serious cash.
