The NBA only has had tall players throughout its history, but here are some of the tallest NBA players to have ever played in the league. The Tallest NBA Player Ever
The tallest player in NBA history is Gheorghe Muresan, who was listed at 7 feet 7 inches, 231 centimeters tall. Muresan played for the Washington Bullets, now Wizards, and the New Jersey Nets during his NBA career between 1993 and 2000. Gheorghe Muresan is a retired Romanian basketball player, born on Valentine’s Day in 1971. His height was the result of a pituitary gland disorder known as acromegaly. While there have been other players who were the same height, Muresan is officially recognized as the tallest player in professional baseball history.
Muresan began his basketball career playing for the junior team of Steaua Bucuresti in Romania. He then played professionally in France for several years before being drafted by the Washington Bullets in the second round of the 1993 NBA Draft. Muresan played for the Bullets between 1993 and 1997 and the New Jersey Nets during the 1998-1999 season.
They chose him as the Most Improved Player in the 1995-1996 season, in which he averaged 14.5 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game.
He also appeared in the 1996 NBA All-Star Game. After retiring from basketball in 2000 due to recurring injuries, Muresan returned to Romania. He founded a basketball academy for children. He has also appeared in several movies, including My Giant with Billy Crystal and Manodrome, which was released earlier this year. Muresan is still a beloved NBA figure and is regarded as one of the country’s greatest athletes.
Manute Bol – The Dinka Dunker
Manute Bol was a Sudanese-born American professional basketball player. He was mostly known for being one of the tallest players in NBA history, standing at 7 feet 7 inches, so 231 cm tall. If anyone was born to play basketball, it was him! Bol was born in 1962 and sadly passed away in 2010. The star player began playing basketball at a young age in Sudan before moving to the United States to pursue his professional career as an athlete.
He played college basketball at the University of Bridgeport before being drafted by the Washington Bullets in the second round of the NBA Draft in 1985. Bol played for various teams during his career, including the Washington Bullets, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, and Philadelphia 76ers. He had impossibly long limbs, so Bol was the best shot-blocker in the NBA and threw three-pointers like they were not a big deal. Bol blocked more than 2000 shots, becoming the only player who had more blocks than points during his career.
Off the court, Bol was known for his humanitarian efforts, particularly in his native country of Sudan. He established the Ring True Foundation, which raised funds for various causes in Sudan, including building schools, clinics, and water wells. Bol passed away in 2010 at 47 due to kidney failure and complications from Stevens-Johnson syndrome, a rare skin condition. Yao Ming is a retired Chinese professional basketball player who is widely regarded as one of the greatest international players in NBA history and the tallest NBA player with his 7 feet 6 inches, 229 cm, frame. He was born in China in 1980, where his career as a pro athlete began. He played for the Shanghai Sharks in the Chinese Basketball Association, also called CBA. Eventually, he was picked first overall by the Houston Rockets in the 2002 NBA Draft. With that, he became the first international player to be selected first overall in the draft.

He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.

Tacko Fall is a professional basketball player who currently plays for the Boston Celtics in the NBA. He was born in 1995 in Senegal. He started playing college basketball at the University of Central Florida between 2016 and 2019. Tacko Fall is known for his exceptional height! His 7 feet and 5 inches, 2.26 meters, frame makes him one of the tallest players in NBA history. Despite his height, he is also famous for his agility and athleticism on the court.

Slavko Vranes is a retired former professional basketball player from Montenegro who was one of the tallest NBA players. He was born in 1983 and reached his full height at 7 feet 5 inches. Vranes began his professional career in 2002, playing for several clubs in Europe, including Budućnost Podgorica, FMP Železnik, and Barcelona. In 2003, the New York Knicks chose him in the second round of the NBA draft.
However, he never played a regular-season game for the team. Vranes continued to play professionally in Europe and Asia. For instance, he played for teams in Serbia, Italy, Spain, Iran, and China, among other countries. He retired from professional basketball in 2019.
