Move over, grandpa! The NBA is a young man’s game. Here are the best and brightest young stars under the age of 25.
The NBA season is roughly one quarter finished, but fans and bettors have a tendency to look to the next calendar year with a healthy dose of optimism. 2015 will be a brand new year, and the league is filled with exciting young players with limitless potential.
David Thorpe called Anthony Davis “the best player on Earth.”
Klay Thompson is shooting 43% from three-point range
John Wall is the NBA’s best young point guard
As a fan, you can bet on your favorite NBA stars by placing props with online sportsbooks in the US, Canada and UK such as Bovada, Bet365 and BetVictor. Prop betting allows you wager on points scored, rebounds, assists, points per quarter and game-winning shots made. When looking for props to make, consider this quintet of rising stars:
PG: John Wall, Washington Wizards
John Wall was drafted first overall in 2010 and given the herculean task of turning the perennially-disappointing Wizards into contenders. Most players would have failed miserably, but the 24-year old has proven to be up to the task.
Last year he led the Wizards to their first playoff berth since 2007-08, and this year the Wiz are even better, currently sitting at #2 in the Eastern Conference. If Wall turns in more performances like the 26 points-17 assists-6 rebounds-3 steals he put up against the Celtics, we just may see the boys from DC in the finals come June.
SG: Kyrie Irving, Cleveland Cavaliers
The 22-year old Cav has found new life playing second fiddle to Lebron. The young phenom has bounced back and forth from point guard to shooting guard over his four NBA seasons, but now seems comfortable in his role as a primary scorer.
Irving is shooting an ultra-efficient 47% from the field and 40% from three, all while playing tough defense. During November he scored 20 points or more in seven consecutive games. As he continues to hone his skills and learn from one of the game’s all-time greats, we’ll be disappointed when he scores only 20 points.
SF: Klay Thompson, Golden State Warriors
The Warriors currently have the NBA’s best record at 19-2, and it’d due in no small part to the nightly brilliance of Thompson (who actually plays shooting guard most of the time, but we just couldn’t leave him off the list).
Thompson is quickly blossoming into the league’s premier deep ball threat (43% from three!), draws a tough defensive assignment every night and even chips in with an average 3.5 assists. He may not look like the league’s most physically impressive player, but it never seems to prevent him from getting the job done.
The best part is that Thompson is only 24, meaning that the Warriors are set up for dominance for years to come.
PF: Anthony Davis, New Orleans Hornets
Now in his fourth year, the Hornets star has been compared to a young Kevin Garnett. Those are big shoes to fill, but Davis has a chance to be even better. He is a more natural scorer and shot blocker than Garnett was, and as his body fills out, he will be an even stronger presence in the low post.
Davis dominates on both ends of the floor and has put up ludicrous numbers thus far in 2014-15. Here is his stat-line in a game against Orlando: 26 points, 17 rebounds, 9 blocks (!!!!!!!!!), 2 assists and 3 steals. The scariest part? Games like that or the norm, not the exception.
Davis is the consensus best player under the age of 25, and ESPN’s David Thorpe even called him “the best player on Earth.” He still has a ways to go in order to surpass Lebron or Kevin Durant, but the gap keeps getting smaller.
C: Andre Drummond, Detroit Pistons
At a muscular, agile 6’11 and 280 pounds, Drummond has the prototypical center’s body. He overpowers opponents in the paint but can also run like a deer. At only 21 years old, the sky is the limit. He just needs to refine his offensive skills to become a more consistent scoring threat.
In a November game against Milwaukee, Drummond posted arguably the season’s most ridiculous stat-line to date: 26 points and 20 rebounds, all while protecting the rim as if it was his firstborn child. Imagine what he’ll be able to do once he adds a jump shot to his repertoire?
Conclusion
The reason that we love wagering on props with our favorite online sportsbooks and mobile betting apps is because it allows us to wager directly on our favorite players. That is something that appeals to all NBA fans.
The most recommended sites for placing prop bets are Bet365, BetVictor, Bodog and Bovada. Each site offers a wide range of props on their desktop and mobile versions. While government officials recently declared Bet365 illegal in Belgium, it remains available to most internet bettors. Don’t miss out on the chance to bet on your favorite stars!
