With a 3-1 win against Croatia, Brazil had a good start in the World Cup; but does the team have what it takes to become champion?

American statistician and writer Nate Silver thinks it does. The man specializes in sports and political predictions, so he knows what he’s talking about.

According to American gambling news, Silver accurately predicted the winner of 49 of the 50 states during the 2008 presidential elections and got the winner of all 35 US Senate race right.

Fans of online and mobile betting might be interested in the prophet’s tip for the 2014 World Cup and Silver recently said Brazil has 45% chances of winning the big event.

“It’s hard to beat Brazil in Brazil”

The editor-in-chief of ESPN’s FiveThirtyEight blog makes a very strong case in favor of the Selecao, starting out by saying that “it’s really hard to beat Brazil in Brazil.”

“Argentina, Germany and Spain, like Brazil, are wonderful soccer teams,” he wrote. “You could perhaps debate which of the four would be favored if the World Cup were played on a hastily constructed soccer pitch somewhere in the middle of the desert”.

“But this World Cup is being played in Brazil. No country has beaten Brazil on its home turf in almost 12 years” the statistician argued.

Silver said Brazil has 45% chances of winning, followed by Argentina with only 13% and Germany with 11%.
