The history behind the ISAF Sailing World Cup

The ISAF World Cup was a way for the International sailing organization to raise the events in this sport on a top level. In the middle of the past June, the top 30 sailors in World Sailing’s Fleet racing rankings were invited to take participation on the World Cup regatta in Quingado. Racing across the ten Olympic fleers starts on 21st of September with the medal races closing the event on 25th of September. The previous event in Weymouth & Portland proved once again the domination of the Olympic champions from Rio, Sime Fantela and Igor Marenic in the World Cup. The Croats won the 470 race which was their second consecutive victory in the World Cup after the one on the regattas in Hyeres. Whether their greatest rivals Mathew Belcher and William Ryan will take the throne from them is something we are about to see.

Another interesting duel will be the one in the RS:X class for men between the golden Dutch from Rio, Dorian van Rijsselberghe and Nick Dempsey, who ended up second at the Rio Olympics.
