The Manchester United legend has been appointed as the new boss of the Welsh national side, after former manager Chris Coleman decided to leave the job to manage Sunderland in the Premier League. According to online sportsbook news, the announcement of Giggs’ appointment was immediately met with criticism about his lack of managerial experience, especially since it concerns the national team of Wales.

Is Giggs really up for the challenge?

The only time the 44-year-old former midfielder has managed a team was Man United in the closing stages of the 2013/14 season, after the club sacked Sir Alex Ferguson’s hand-picked successor David Moyes. Despite still actively playing for the club then, Giggs took on the role of caretaker for 4 official games, which saw him record 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss – 50% winning percentage.

“I’ll do that by winning games,”  stressed Giggs about winning over his sceptics. “As long as I’m winning games those questions won’t come up. It’s up to me to give it my all, which I will, my management team to give their all and also the players to make the country proud – just like they were two years ago at the Euros.”

Giggsy made 62 apps. and scored 12 times for Wales as a player.

It’s worth noting that Giggs served as the second man in charge while Louis van Gaal was manager at Old Trafford, but when the club’s hierarchy decided to let go of the Dutch boss after the 2015/16 campaign they opted to hand over the reigns to Jose Mourinho instead of their club legend. Giggs will have a hard task overcoming his critics, but the only way he can do that is by winning, as he himself promised to do.

“I loved playing for my country and now is probably the proudest moment of my life to lead the Welsh nation into next two to four years, with the Euros and then the World Cup,” said the iconic player who appeared in 62 games for his national side and found the back of the net 12 times.

Giggs enjoyed a marvellous playing career with Man United, filled with loads of silverware

The midfielder made his debut with the Old Trafford side in the 1990/91 season at the age of 17, and in 2 appearances that he’s managed to find himself on the scoresheet once that debut campaign. The following season served as a catalyst of what would be in later years as he played in an impressive 51 matches scoring 7 goals in the process.

He won his first major trophy in the 1992/93 campaign which saw Man United lift their first Premier League title in the new format of the competition. The Welshman improved year after year which quickly saw him become a club icon and a regular starter in then manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s side. The Scot featured Giggs less sparingly as he aged, but he still managed to make over 30 appearances in a season in the latter stages of his playing career. His very last season (2013/14) saw him play in only 22 games, as Ferguson had by then retired the year before.

Overall, Giggs played in 963 official games for the Red Decvils scoring 168 times in 24 years with the club. But will his impressive playing experience and winning mentality help him beat the odds set by providers of internet betting in UK?
