Real Madrid La Liga outright betting odds: underdogs to Barca
Sergio Ramos could depart Real Madrid this summer after falling out with club president. Would it effect Real Madrid La Liga outright betting odds?
The captain would be sorely missed by the Bernabeu crowd
After 14 highly-rewarding seasons at the club, Sergio Ramos has asked to leave Real Madrid and join an unnamed team in the Chinese Super League, according to online sportsbooks in Spain.
But if reports are anything to go by, the main reason behind his wish to leave the Bernabeu is down to his recent rift with club president Florentino Perez.
After Real Madrid were knocked out of the Champions League in the round of 16 by Ajax, Perez supposedly stormed the dressing room and blamed Ramos for being eliminated from the elite competition that they’ve won on four out of the last five occasions (including three in succession).
This has led the 33-year-old defender to seek new challenges away from Spain, with China being touted as the prime destination, where he could also end his career, considering his age.
The Real Madrid president informed Los Blancos fans that Ramos – who is greatly adorned at the club – could soon depart the team he has been with since moving from Sevilla in 2005.
“They (Ramos and his agent) came to see me in my office and told me they had a very good offer from China but the league rules over there wouldn’t permit them to pay the transfer fee,” Perez commented to radio station Onda Cero.
“What was I going to tell him? We said this couldn’t happen but we’d speak to the club to satisfy him but that Real Madrid could not afford to let its captain leave for free as that would set a terrible precedent for other players.”
Bet on Real Madrid La Liga outright betting odds
Ramos has won every single trophy possible with the Bernabeu side, making him the envy of many footballers that weren’t fortunate to be in his position. He’s claimed 4 Champions League trophies, 3 UEFA Super Cups, 4 FIFA Cup World Cups, 2 Copa del Reys, 3 Super de Espana medals and 4 La Liga crowns.
An envious achievement, indeed. However, after 14 seasons providers of internet betting in Spain could argue that more could have been won domestically, as he has only 4 league triumphs to his name in all that time in La Liga.
Among other factors, it’s mainly down to Barcelona’s dominance domestically during this period, as Real Madrid have only managed to clinch back-to-back titles in 2006/07 and 2007/08.
As Zinedine Zidane is set to restructure his side over the coming summer, Real Madrid could be once again challenging for the biggest trophies. And they’re likely to pay particular attention at home, where they’ll aim to wrestle back the La Liga title from Barcelona.
