The Cheltenham Festival, one of the biggest events on the United Kingdom horse betting calendar is scheduled for this week.
The Cheltenham Festival is one of the biggest horse racing event in the United Kingdom. It is often referred to as the Greatest Show on Turf. And quite rightly so, it is the event to look out for when it comes to wagering at land-based and online sportsbooks in the United Kingdom.
The jump racing event will gather the finest horses and jockeys from Britain and Ireland at the Prestbury Park this week. The festival is scheduled for March 11-14 dates and will provide fans with the best competitive racing show, while punters will enjoy a wide coverage at bookies operating under the British gambling laws.
What events to expect and bet on
The most anticipated race of this event and the whole season is naturally the Stan James Champion Hurdle, which is held on Tuesday, March 11th. In case the 10-year-old Hurricane Fly wins the event, it will be his third victory, propelling the horse into the all-time greatest’ league.
Of course, some might say the horse is a bit old for victory at this level, but there was only one defeat in the last four years, when he was beaten by Rock on Ruby two years ago, and has swiftly avenged that a year later.
Cheltenham Festival delivers a wide selection of betting odds
• One of the biggest horse racing festivals will offer plenty of odds under British gambling laws
• Punters can choose between a number of top races and handicaps
• A long list of special betting odds is also available
This time around there will only new rivals, The New One and My Tent Or Yours. Hurricane Fly has already defeated his fellow Irish raiders Our Conor and Jezki.
The New One and the Hurricane Fly have actually received equal odds to win the race – 11/4. My Tent Or Yours is next in line with 4/1, while Our Conor trails with a line of 9/2. Next up is Jezki with 8/1, and then come the outsiders: Melodic Rendezvous at 25/1, Ptit Zig at 33/1, Grumeti with 100/1, and Captain Cee Bee with 200/1 odds to win the Champion Hurdle.
My Tent Or Yours has already beaten The New One this Christmas, but the latter has made a huge mistake, and if everything goes right he is the top contender to beat the champ.
Other races at the festival
Bobs Worth will be up against Silviniaco Conti to defend last year’s Gold Cup title. The race will be close, but Silviniaco Conti seems to have more momentum following the victory in the King George at Kempton. Bobs Worth got a line of 7/4, while Silviniaco Conti received a slightly longer line of 11/4. They are followed by Last Installment at 7/1, Triolo d’Alene and First Lieutenant at 12/1 each, Captain Chris at 14/1, and The Giant Bolster with 16/1 odds to win the race.
Big Bucks could be in for an amazing fifth victory in World Hurdle scheduled for Thursday. But British gambling news reported that Willie Mullins will run Annie Power. According to him it’s the best mare since Dawn Run, the legendary horse which was the only one to win both Gold Cup and Champion Hurdle.
She’s got a weight allowance due to sex, and is unbeaten in 10 starts. Annie Power is top of the bookies’ lists with a line of 7/4, while Big Bucks is trailing with 5/2 and At Fishers Cross is third with 7/1. Next up is Quevega with 8/1, Rule the World and More Of That with 10/1 each.
Handicap races
Top races are not the only thing that attracts fans and punters to the Cheltenham Festival. There is a wide range of handicap races, some of them will be hugely competitive, thus providing great betting odds at the bookies.
Tuesday will see the Rewards 4Racing Novices’ Handicap Chase, where Present View is the favorite having easily won at Kempton only three weeks ago. The Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Handicap Chase will be the very last event on Friday, where Ted Veale and Next Sensation are regarded as the favorites with 11/2 and 8/1 respective odds.
