With Newcastle United on the verge of being taken over by the Saudi big money, the question remains who will lead the team to another level? Next Newcastle manager odds suggest a long list of candidates, but the top favorite is Mauricio Pochettino.
Newcastle United has gone through a long journey of ups and downs in the Premier League. It has finished in the top four of the Premier League five times during the past 25 seasons. However, the club finished in the bottom half 13 times and it was relegated twice. 18 different managers have come in and left, with Steve Bruce being the nineteenth.
Bruce has done reasonably well in the Premier League and Championship. However, next season a new era will start with the Saudi royal family’s Public Investment Fund taking over the club. Probably Bruce is not the one to take the team to the next level. But, who will be a suitable replacement?
According to online sportsbooks in the United Kingdom, there are plenty of names in Europe. We have selected the top four available now at the next Newcastle manager odds. Mauricio Pochettino is rightfully the favorite with a value of 1/1 at BetVictor. The old guards Rafa Benitez (4/1) and Kevin Keegan (14/1) are among the frontrunners as well. But, the wild card might be Massimiliano Allegri at 14/1.
Pochettino might not be able to reject a big-money offer
Mauricio Pochettino is most probably ticking all the boxes. Thus, Newcastle is seriously planning to convince the former Tottenham boss to join in. His resume cannot be doubted after lifting Tottenham to the top four in the Premier League and establishing it as a force in the Champions League. As for now, many online sportsbook news in the United Kingdom suggest one of Europe’s super-clubs might sign him in. However, the Saudi group, funded by Crown Prince MBS has enough assets to turn anyone’s head. Should Pochettino receive an offer by the upcoming owners, he will certainly study it carefully.
Benitez most fit for the club’s culture
The Spaniard Rafael Benitez has led Newcastle to promotion from the Championship in his first full season in charge. He did a good job leading the club back to the Premier League. In the second season, he led the team to mid-table safety. Looking back at his resume, he is one of the most managers who understood the club mentality and the fans. His return will likely depend on the financials which not be a big issue. Besides, the fans will probably be very happy to see him in the dugout. Therefore, he is among the frontrunners at the next Newcastle manager odds.
Keegan will be welcomed as a hero again
The 69-year-old previously expressed that he will be open to a third managerial spell at the club if the Mike Ashley leaves. With that being resolved now, there is probably nothing standing in between. Kevin Keegan led Newcastle to its most memorable journey between 1992 – 1997. In the four Premiership seasons following promotion under Keegan’s leadership, the team finished third, sixth, second, and second.
The team was named ‘The Entertainers’ winning the hearts of many. It was very close to winning the Premier League in 1996 only to blow a 12-point lead at the top of the table to finish second. In 2008, Keegan returned to the hot seat as a hero. However, it did not particularly go well. It remains to be seen if Keegan will return for a third spell, but no doubt the fans will be thrilled. Allegri yet to test his methods outside Italy
The former Juventus manager has considerable experience. He won the domestic double with Juventus for four consecutive seasons between 2015-2018 and AC Milan’s last Serie A title in 2011. During his 17 years of work as a manager, Massimiliano Allegri led seven separate clubs. But, he is yet to test his methods outside Italy. The 52-year-old has been unemployed for quite some time now. A project in the Premier League will be ambitious for Allegri, and signing him will be a significant coup for Newcastle.
