The next event of the 2020 LPGA Tour is the Pelican Women’s Championship this week in Belleair, Florida. World No1 South Korean Jin Young Ko will make her first appearance of the season after missing all other races so far. She is in the favorites in the Pelican Championship winner odds but only behind US golfer Danielle Kang.
The 2020 LPGA Tour started in Florida back in January and will return now to the Tampa Bay area with the Pelican Women’s Championship at Belleair. The last event here, the St Petersburg Open was held in 1989. But this will be the first time that the Pelican Golf Club organizes a tournament. Eight of the top 10 players take part in it, including world No1 Sei Young Kim. Along with 11-time LPGA Tour champion Lexi Thompson who was born in Florida. The 15th event of the LPGA 2020 season is one of the last opportunities for players before the US Women’s Open, the last major tournament of the season.
Pelican Championship winner odds predict Asian victory
Online sportsbooks in the US mention their local favorite, Danielle Kang with the smallest odds, 9.00 to win the event. The former American amateur champion turned professional in 2011, so she is one of the more experienced players of the field. She has five LPGA Tour wins including a major from 2017. This season Kang got two victories and moved her to the 4th place in the world rankings.
The Pelican Championship winner odds offer the same odds, 11.00 to two Asian players to win the event. World No2 South Korean Sei Young Kim and world No6 Japanese Nasa Hataoka. Kim won her first major, the Women’s PGA Championship this October which helped her to reach the best ranking in her career. The 27-year-old golfer got her 11th LPGA Tour victory in Pennsylvania, beside four additional top 10 finishes this year. Hataoka is also having a strong season. She finished in T3 position at the PGA Championship which was her best result at a major. And this year she also played in the play-off at the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions, where Mexican Gaby Lopez got the victory.
World No1 and Canadian top player are also in the favorites
Canadian Brooke Henderson has the odds of 13.00 by online gambling sites in the US. She has 9 wins in the LPGA Tour so far and is currently in 7th place on the rankings. Henderson won her first major, the Women’s PGA Championship in 2016, at the age of only 18. With her victory she became the youngest winner of the event’s history. She didn’t win any events this year but was close to it at the ANA Inspiration where she took part in the play-off.
While world No1 Jin Young Ko has been offered the same chances and the odds of 13.00 on Intertops. The top South Korean golfer hasn’t played in any tournament this season, as she decided to stay in her country until now. With this championship Ko returns to the Tour just ahead of the last major in 2020. She was Player of the Year last season after winning two majors and two more LPGA Tour events. No one is really sure about her current form, but she will surely aim for a good finish in Florida.
