Pakistani Gambler Attacked and Robbed in Kathmandu

A gambling vacation to Nepal turned into a real nightmare for a 29 year-old Pakistani man.

Tourists visiting Nepal for its casinos are worried to hear about the latest incident where a young man got robbed of all of his belongings, on his way back to the hotel after a night of gambling in a casino on Durbarmarg Street.

The 29 year-old Pakistani gambler had IRs 300,000 on him, as well as his passport and return ticket. According to the police, the muggers attacked the victim with a sharp weapon and took everything before driving away on their motorcycles. The victim sustained mild injuries.

Tourists, the new target?

As Nepalese gambling laws still allow a few casinos to operate in its capital Kathmandu, the city is a magnet for Asian punters. Meanwhile, betting is forbidden for locals and this has largely contributed to the emergence of illegal gambling dens.

After last week’s robbery, tourists are starting to ask themselves if Kathmandu is a safe gambling destination. There are no online casinos in Nepal either, so there aren’t many options besides a few casinos in Kathmandu.

The local police forces are looking into the case and hoping to catch the robbers soon. As a measure of precaution, gambling tourists visiting Kathmandu are advised to be careful and avoid roaming the streets by themselves.
