Our Wager Of The Week Winner; Chris Rock

With controversy already setting in six whole weeks before the Oscars go live, we congratulate Chris Rock for both sticking to his guns whilst others call for him to step down and gambling his brand of humor is perfect for an event this polarized. Well done Chris, you’re our wager of the week winner!

Wager Of The Week
• Chris Rock Oscars host
• No black nominees
• Second year running

For the second year in a row the Oscar nominations are, without exception, devoid of black faces and the objections have come thick and fast as some major stars pull out of this year’s ceremony in protest.

Acclaimed director Spike Lee won’t be attending, and nor will Jada Pinkett Smith, and nor will Michael Moore who has said “The idea that we could go two years in a row, where forty actors could be nominated and none of them were black, is just crazy.”

Others are expected to follow suit, but not Chris Rock who is hosting the show and has already played into the controversy by tweeting the Oscars are the “White BET awards” much to the amusement of all. One can only imagine what will be said on stage when the night rolls round.

US gambling laws prevent most from betting on the Oscars but sites like Unibet  are hardly out of reach to the even moderately techno-savvy and whilst Chris might be our wager of the week winner, you’ll have to check out the odds to see who you should be backing.

Oscars Host Wins Our Wager Of The Week

In the Best Movie category Unibet are offering 11/13 that it’s going to be Spotlight, Tom McCarthy’s tale of investigative reporting, child abuse and cover up in Boston, although The Revenant is 7/4 which isn’t entirely out of the running.

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu might just pip Tom for the Best Director Oscar however, garnering 11/17 ahead of Spotlight‘s director at 3/1. That said, there’s a history of sweeping wins at the Oscars so that 3/1 punt on Tom McCarthy to get Best Director isn’t a bad gamble at all.

Whether you choose bet on sports in the US or not, the Oscars is a novelty wager at best, but not if you’re our wager of the week winner who now has to be gambling on maximum publicity and a controversy-themed award show that his jokes were almost tailored made for. Under these conditions Chris Rock will not just steal the show, he’ll probably sell it on Ebay.
