Online Gambling in Massachusetts May Come in 2017

According to multiple reports, a new bill to legalize online gambling in Massachusetts is expected to be presented sometime in 2017.

It’s looking like Massachusetts may become the newest state to legalize internet gambling. State Treasurer Deborah Goldberg has pledged to introduce the new legislation sometime this year, which would open up the market for internet gambling companies to operate here.

An initial report from the Sun Chronicle claimed this new bill would help to open up the online lottery in Massachusetts. Goldberg expanded on this story, explaining that the bill would also dive into the process of legalizing online casinos and sports betting as well.

“Between the impending arrival of [Massachusetts] casinos, increasing competition from daily fantasy sports, the overall shift to online versus point-of-sale transactions, and our ageing lottery demographic, we have no choice but to pursue new solutions,” Goldberg said.

It remains to be seen whether Massachusetts can make US gambling news by legalizing online gambling, but the State Senate will likely spend a few months reviewing the bill before coming to a decision.
