Government Pushes Back Against SNP Vote Plan

Just when you thought it was safe, another referendum looms on the horizon. Admittedly this one appears a way off, but you get the feeling it’s inevitable. With the SNP clear victors in the recent elections, they have all the mandate they need to push forward. However, Boris Johnson and his government voiced their disapproval so this won’t be an easy ride. Online sportsbook sites in the UK like Bet365 have the odds on IndyRef2, as they’re now calling it, almost too close to call.
“I pledge today to get back to work immediately to continue to steer the country through the crisis and then, when the time is right, to offer this country the choice of a better future.” Said Nicola Sturgeon after the SNP’s local election victory. She just didn’t actually mention when the crisis would end, what would define the right time and what represented a better future. She didn’t shift the odds on IndyRef2 one iota. Probably because she knows it won’t be an easy sell.
Pro-Union voters denied the SNP an outright majority in Scotland with some neat tactical voting for Labour. However, they still have the mandate to govern as they see fit. Independence has always been a central plank in their manifesto. They can hardly turn their back on the concept now, even if it is now somewhat unpalatable. But the odds on IndyRef2 are so close at online betting sites in the UK like Bet365, Nicola many never find it’s the “right time” (one when she wins the vote).
IndyRef2 May Need To Wait Until 2025
“I think a referendum in the current context is irresponsible and reckless”. Said Boris Johnson. This is probably because he knows, unlike David Cameron last time, he’ll probably lose. Boris is not popular north of the border. Scottish voters remember the broken promises of Conservative governments. Indeed, you may find the more Boris voices his disapproval the shorter the odds on IndyRef2 voting ‘leave’ will get. His blustering dishonesty tends to have that effect on people.

Of course, no one taking advantage of UK gambling laws would bet on Boris Johnson admitting it. He’s the best advert for Independence the SNP have ever had. But he won’t stop. He believes he can paint the SNP as dangerously single-minded. Good luck with that, Boris. The odds on IndyRef2 might be close, but those are soft numbers. Once Nicola announces a vote, with a date set aside, the pro-independence numbers could toughen up substantially. Boris knows this full well.
Scots Can Still Bet On Sports In The UK At Bet365
Online bookies in the UK like Bet365 offering odds on IndyRef2 voting Remain of 10/11. This looks reassuring for Boris and Co until you spot Leave gets 4/5. That really isn’t too far off. Unlike the referendum. Nicola Sturgeon is likely to keep that entirely notional for a good while yet. She will want to see what long-term effects Brexit has had first. Either to counter them or use them as yet more reasons for people to vote for Independence. She’ll wait till her quiver is full.
Bet On IndyRef2
- Bet On Scottish Independence – 4/5
- Bet On Scotland Remaining In The Union – 10/11
So don’t bet on Scottish Independence arriving anytime soon. Bet365 is offering 8/15 odds on IndyRef2 not occurring prior to 2025. Compare that with the 6/1 they’re offering in 2022. For those expecting an instant vote, you can back it happening in 2021, but that gets a 10/1 price for a reason. So you can bet on the SNP and Nicola Sturgeon to keep their powder dry for the time being. They’ll focus on more urgent matters and leave Boris Johnson to make their independence arguments for them.
