The incumbent chairman of the Finns Party Jussi Halla-Aho recently announced that he is stepping down. Thus, a new leader will be elected next August. There are no official candidates yet. But, according to the next Finns Party leader odds, three names have emerged as the favorites. They are Riikka Purra, Sebastian Tynkkynen, and Juho Eerola. Here is what you need to know about them.
If you are looking to place some exciting bets on Finnish politics this is a perfect time. In two months the Finns Party will elect a new leader, as the current chairman Jussi Halla-Aho will not seek re-election in the August party conference. Some observers at online sportsbooks news sites in Finland argue his decision is no surprise. Others say it is likely a reaction to the local elections, where the Finns Party was expecting more support.
However, what is important is that Halla-Aho is leaving and there will be a new face for the Finns Party. No official reports on who is going to take over or who intends to seriously run in the party election. But, at the next Finns Party leader odds, three names seem to garner attention. Here is a brief review of each of the three potential candidates.
Riikka Purra quickly climbed with the party
The Party’s vice chair and an MP at the Uusimaa constituency Riikka Purra is on top of the next Finns Party leader odds. Her value is 1.15 to run and win, according to 22BET Sportsbook. It is interesting to see her name on top because she only joined the Party in 2016. A very quick climb of the ladder, makes many consider her among the most successful in politics. So, why not she can continue her success to reach the top spot.
Sebastian Tynkkynen has a controversial resume
The third vice chair of the Finns Party Sebastian Tynkkynen is a well-known face in Finland’s politics. Of course not for all good reasons. Some are in fact very ugly and controversial. Only last April Tynkkynen received his third conviction for hate speech and ethnic agitation, as per yle.
He ran to all types of positions with the Finns Party. For example, he ran for Parliament in 2014 and 2015 but was not elected. He also faced expulsion for almost a year from the Party but managed to rejoin. Although his next Finns Party leader odds are at 7.5, his controversial comments might stand in the way to get such a high position.
Juho Eerola is another popular face
The current deputy speaker of the Parliament Juho Eerola is another popular face within the Party. He was first elected to the Finnish Parliament in 2011. He is also a member of the city council of Kotka. Many online sportsbooks in Finland suggest that Eerola will at least be nominated for vice-chair. But, his next Finns Party leader odds are also high at 10.
