Before the upcoming Copa América, we would like our readers to know more about the participating teams.
Copa América is the most prestigious football event in South América. The newest edition will kick off on 11 June, and the tournament takes place in Chile. Before the upcoming football competition, we would like to give more details about each participating teams of Copa América, so that our readers can be better-prepared and will know better what to expect from the tournament.
Peru has low chances to go through the group stage
Peruvian gambling news report that their national team was drawn into Group B. In this group, they will have to face Venezuela, Colombia and Brazil. Out of these three names, Peru will be huge underdogs against both the Colombian and the Brazilian sides, however they might do well against Venezuela.
Finishing in one of the first two places seems almost impossible for the Peruvian side, however as all the clichés say, the ball is round and anything can happen in football. As we know, the first two places mean instant participation to the next round, while getting the fourth place will mean a flight back home from Chile.
• Peru hopes to reach the third place
• Most players play in Peruvian league
• Farfán will be key player
Finishing in the third place would be interesting. There are three groups in Copa América, and the firsts and the seconds qualify with no problem at all. The three third placed teams will be compared, and the worst one of them gets eliminated, while the two best ones qualify for the quarter-finals.
Peru will start the tournament by playing against title-favourite Brazil, and stealing a point from Dunga’s men would be a huge success. They will face Venezuela in the second round where they can only aim for winning the game if they want to go to the next stage. And they will play the last group match against Colombia, where again, stealing a point should be regarded as a great achievement.
Peru has slight chances according to online internet casinos and sportsbooks because most of their players are playing for not very well-known teams. Meanwhile, their rivals are all playing for the best European teams, such as Brazil’s Neymar plays for Barcelona, or Colombia’s James Rodriguez is number 10 at Real Madrid. And they are not the only great stars in their national teams.
Peru’s squad represents the Peruvian league
Online gambling sites in Peru report that their national team’s squad is mostly represented by the best players of the Peruvian first division. The biggest star players have of course moved to Europe to play for big European teams which are acknowledged as a good team, but the majority stayed at home.
For example, the three goalkeepers, who are named in the squad, are all playing in the Peruvian league. Diego Penny plays for Sporting Cristal, Pedro Gallese is at Juan Aurich and Salomón Libman is a plyer of Universidad César Vallejo. Diego Penny is the only one who had the chance to try European football – or even to leave Peru – as he signed for English side Burnley, having played only 2 league games in 2 years.
The defensive line is a bit better as there are three players out of seven, who play in Europe, but four of them is players of a home club. Christian Ramos and Jair Céspedes play for Juan Aurich, while Hansell Riojas and Pedro Paulo Requena are at Universidad César Vallejo. The other three defenders are Luis Advíncula, Yoshimar Yotún and Carlos Zambrano, who are players of Vitória Setúbal, FF Malmö and Eintracht Frankfurt respectively.
The situation does not differ very much in the midfield. Six out of eight midfielders are selected from the home country’s football league. The two players who are playing out of Peru are 24-year-old Paolo Hurtado, who plays for Portuguese club Pacos de Ferreira, and 31-year-old Juan Manuel Vargas, who plays for Italian side Fiorentina. The other midfielders of the squad are Josepmir Ballon, Carlos Lobatón, Edwin Retamoso, Christian Cueva, Joel Sánchez and the squad’s second youngest member, 22 years old Carlos Ascues.
However, it is completely different among the strikers of the national team. As mobile betting sites like to highlight, in spite of having most of their goalkeepers, defenders and midfielders being selected from domestic league, none of the Peruvian forwards play for a Peruvian team. In addition, almost all of them plays for European clubs!
31-year-old Paolo Guerrero is the only one of the 5 strikers who have stayed in the continent, as he plays for Brazil’s Corinthians. 23-year-old André Carillo plays for Sporting Lisboa, while the remaining three attackers are all in Germany. The squad’s youngest member, 21-year-old Yordy Reyna plays for RB Leipzig, while 36-year-old striker Claudio Pizarro is at Bundesliga champion Bayern Münich. The biggest star or the Peruvian national team is Jefferson Farfán who plays for FC Schalke 04.
