Moore Gets Suspended after Charges of Betting Misconduct

The Football Association is claiming Ronnie Moore has committed “multiple breaches” of the country’s betting rules.

The manager of Tranmere Rovers Football Club has been suspended by League One Tranmere on February 17, after he was accused of breaking British gambling laws. The Football Integrity Unit, part of the Football Association, is investigating the matter.

The club released a statement confirming that the 61 year-old professional has officially been charged. The announcement was also posted on the Tranmere Rovers website. The country has strict rules for professional sportsmen, managers and club officials. They are not allowed to bet on sports in the UK on any of the competitions involving their own teams.

Guilty of betting misconduct?

For now, assistant manager John McMahon will be taking over for Moore. McMahon was put in temporary charge for the whole period of his former colleague’s suspension. Tranmere is now on 20th place in the table, just one place above the relegation zone.

The statement released by the football club said: “The FA has charged Ronnie Moore for alleged multiple breaches of Rule E8 (b) for misconduct in relation to betting.”

“The Tranmere Rovers manager has until 8 April 2014 to respond to the charges. The club will make no further comment at this time.”
