Man in Tennessee Wins $259 million on Powerball After Living Under a Vow of Poverty

Roy Cockrum, the huge Powerball winner, takes home the largest jackpot ever won in Tennessee, according to officials, and is planning to put the money to good use by supporting performing artists.

He made it into the gambling news after claiming the prize last week at the Tennessee Lottery headquarters in Nashville, announcing that he wants to take the lump sum payment of $115 million.

His past occupations

Cockrum commented that when he found out he had won the jackpot, it “literally knocked me to my knees.” Then said a prayer took the winning ticket and went to pick up his mother.

His decision as to how to use the winning money is not surprising as he was an actor and stage manager for 20 years. Later on he became known as Brother Roy as he joined The Society of Saint John the Evangelist.

He won the amazing award without playing online casinos in the USA and commented: “I really believe the best way to prepare for this tsunami of cash has been to live under a vow of poverty for a number of years. It gives great perspective.”

Cockrum confirmed that he plans to use most of the money to initiate a foundation, which will support various performing arts organizations in the US.
