The reigning WBA lightweight champion, Lomachenko, will have his fourth appearance at the Hulu Theatre in New York City. Lomachenko is looking to dethrone the WBO champion Jose Pedraza. Betway Sportsbook predicts Lomachenko to win the fight at 1.07 odds, but we have to give Pedraza (7.50) some respect and see his options.
Lomachenko, the Fastest Man to Win Titles in Three Divisions
The Ukrainian star Vasyl Lomachenko (11-1, 9 KOs) is coming off a sensational TKO win against Jorge Linares in May. He became the fastest man to win major world titles in three different weight classes. Before he moved up to the lightweight, he knocked out Roman Martinez in his debut at 130 pounds to win the WBO junior lightweight world title.
Lomachenko lost only one fight in a controversial split decision to Orlando Salido for the WBO featherweight title in his second pro fight. But, in June, 2014 he finally claimed the vacant featherweight title against Gary Russell J.. Since then he won eight bouts out of nine by KO.
He is the favorite to win the fight according to the Lomachenko vs Pedraza predictions. Right noew, Lomachenko is the best pound-for-pound fighter. He is intelligent with flawless footwork and terrific hand speed.
If Lomachenko wins, we expect him to have a showdown against Mikey Garcia for all four major titles in 2019.
Pedraza Lacks True Knockout Power
Jose Pedraza (25-1, 12 KOs) is a massive underdog. He is defending his WBO lightweight title for the first. He won the title with an unanimous-decision victory over Ray Beltran, in August. Pedraza has been very active lately winning three fights in 2018. He bounced back after losing his IBF super-featherweight title to Gervonta Davis by knockout in January 2017.
However, Pedraza is facing a tough task against Lomachenko. Online sportsbook news in the US noted that he is well known for his very effective jab, but he lacks true knockout power. Pedraza will need to outpoint Lomachenko to earn victory, if he can survive 12 rounds without a knockout. If Pedraza succeeds – though it is very hard to see how he can do it – it will be a surprise to all boxing fans, and
the lightweight division will have its new reigning champion.
