Loch Ness, the world-famous lake in Scotland with its monster can be the next UK landmark to sell its naming rights. Landmarks like the London Eye or the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth have already sold their names to companies like Coca Cola or Emirates. To have it happen with Loch Ness seems unlikely though. Still in the Loch Ness naming rights bets, it is possible, let’s see the odds for it.
Loch Ness is one of the most famous lakes in the world, thanks to Nessie, a creature living in it according to the legends. Many tourists visit the place just to try to catch a glimpse of it. So the lake and its beautiful surroundings bring lots of money to the locals and the tourist industry. But it’s hard to imagine, that Loch Ness can have a different name, like Iglu Lake or Cadbury Loch Ness. Even though the odds offered by bookmakers are not too high for it.
Loch Ness naming rights bets suggest a new name is possible for this landmark
It would actually make total sense for a company or organization to buy the naming rights of Loch Ness. It would definitely make the brand more famous and could bring an extra venue. The lake and its area bring £41 million to the Scottish economy, attracting more than half a million visitors.
But we can’t really find examples of natural landmarks to be named after some kind of sponsors. Here is one though to show it is possible. A part of the coast of Antarctica was named Walgreen Coast as the Walgreens pharmacy chain sponsored a former expedition. Sponsoring stadiums, other big venues or buildings are much more common though. Online sportsbooks in the UK are still giving the odds of 21.00 for Loch Ness to get a new name.
Which companies can be attracted to buy the name of the lake?
Probably a tour operator or an adventure travel agency seems the best fit to be the sponsor of the area and buy its naming rights. In the Loch Ness naming rights bets we would give the most chance for these kinds of companies, but any Scottish brand would be an option as well. Like a Scottish food processing company, Baxters is already sponsoring the local marathon. But selling Loch Ness’s name would be a very unique move without any real precedents.
