WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open will enter day 3 of the Main Event with Lazaro Hernandez still in the lead.

Lazaro Hernandez is still the chip leader at the WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open tournament currently being held in Atlantic City in full compliance with American gambling laws. However, the player who is yet to reach any considerable height at live tournaments, needed all the luck he could get to remain on top.

Hernandez started the day 2 of the tournament as chip leader and closed the day at the top as well. Closer to the end he came back from way behind with KQ to beat Shannon Shorr’s AK and eliminate him from the tournament. This 380,000 pot assisted Lazaro to close the day with 753,000 chips.

Matt Haugen is currently second with 735,000 chips, Tyler Patterson is a bit behind in third with 618,000, and Dan Heimiller is fourth with 556,000 chips. Only 190 players will enter day 3 of the tournament from 1,229 starters. Such renowned names as Dan O’Brien, Faraz Jaka, Andy Frankenberger, Chad Brown, and Isaac Barron are still pretty much in contention. Amnon Filippi, Noah Schwartz and Matt Stout will be joining them today.

The tournament itself, WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open, is a renowned stop on the WTP calendar held at one of the most beautiful American poker rooms in Atlantic City. This year’s tournament is the biggest in history with 1,229 players and over $3.9 million in total prize pool.

Here’s what WPT President, Adam Pliska, had to say about the tourney: “We’re incredibly pleased with the turnout. As home to the four largest events in our history, Borgata has a proven reputation as a popular and player-friendly venue.”

He went on to add: “Combine that with the fact that this is the first tournament to accept online qualifiers since the return of legal online poker to the United States, and I think this is a terrific result not just for WPT, but for the entire poker industry.”
