A jubilant Kim Dotcom to host blowout for friends and compatriots after favorable New Zealand court ruling.
The Kiwi internet guru/pirate and founder of Megaupload Kim Dotcom recently received good news: an Auckland High Court will return the cash and property which were seized from him on behalf of the US in 2012. His assets were confiscated after a US prosecutor found him in violation of intellectual property rights, and the government of New Zealand cooperated per the two countries’ agreement in the WTO.
But the ruling has been overturned, and Kim will celebrate by throwing a massive party at the Taupo race track, a popular venue for betting on sports in New Zealand. He will invite friends and members of his political organization, the Internet Party.
A jubilant and defiant Kim
Leave it to the flamboyant Kim Dotcom to make a headline-grabbing comeback. He tweeted the following message: “Our assets were seized for 800 days and still I was able to fight back even with my hands tied behind my back. Imagine what I can do now!!!”
Kim has made tech, criminal and gambling news over the years, once fleeing from the Philippines to escape paying a hefty gambling debt. He has also made stylish getaways from Germany and Thailand.
