The University of Connecticut won over the University of Kentucky during the final NCAA basketball game last night, which cost the Kentucky Governor huge amount of first-class bourbon.
The two governors from the states’ of the finalists – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear and Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy – made it into the gambling news as they kept the tradition and put up friendly bets on their state’s home teams.
The wagers
Despite the fact that the bets are friendly there is always something at stake. This time for Connecticut, Malloy’s office wagered three specialties – beer from Two Roads Brewing Company, wine from the Jones Family Farms in Shelton and Munson’s chocolates.
Beshear was sure in his team’s victory, so he wagered 13 bottles of fine bourbon from different brands, making Malloy’s office quite happy after his team lost.
The basket of liquor, which went to Connecticut included – Corsair Bourbon, Town Branch, Woodford Reserve, Maker’s Mark, Wild Turkey, Jim Beam, Bulleit Bourbon, Four Roses, Evan Williams, Elijah Craig, Willett, Old Pogue and Michter’s.
The basket was provided by the Kentucky Distillers’ Association, and Beshear’s office issued a statement that it also contained: “barware, glasses, apparel and accessories to conduct a priceless bourbon tasting.”
The friendly wager didn’t violate any US gambling laws
and Beshear had to admit the lost and ship the promised bourbon to Connecticut, despite the confidence in his team, also demonstrated in the office’s statement: “Governor Malloy is a terrific governor and friend, but come Tuesday morning, he will be shipping his wager to Bourbon and Wildcat Country!”
