Italian Online Gambling Regulator AAMS Now Playing Nicely with European Commission

The Amminstrazione Autonoma dei Monopoli di Stato (AAMS), regulator of Internet gambling in Italy, is finally working with European Commission authorities on moving forward the implementation of new Italian gambling laws. 

After delaying certain EC procedures simply by not filing the requested reports, EC spokesmen yesterday reported that AAMS is now providing all necessary documentation on licensing and legalities in good time. The monopolistic AAMS had been accused delaying procedures and ultimately saw themselves on the wrong end of litigation brought by Microgame, a supplier of software for Internet casinos and online poker sites in Italy. 

Any draft law that is approved by the European Commission then gets a 60-day waiting period before it would go into effect in Italy. Most now figure this means the new Italian gambling law might be implemented by December. 

Changes to the draft law requested by AAMS which had required documentation include details on infrastructure between the regulator, online players and casino operators with regard to licensing and penalties for violations of the law.
