Here we take a look at some of the top MLB pitchers to watch in 2017, and the odds for each of their teams to win the World Series this year.
There are a number of incredible pitchers competing inside the MLB right now. Many of these players are under the age of 25. Here we’ll take a look at some of the pitchers to watch for the rest of the season.
Joe Ross: Washington Nationals
24 year old Joe Ross will likely pitch his first full season this year with the Washington Nationals. He joined the Nationals at the end of 2014, and looked tremendous in his appearances on the mound with an ERA of 3.52 and 152 strikeouts.
Intertops 2017 World Series betting favorites
- Chicago Cubs: 5.50
- Houston Astros: 5.50
- Cleveland Indians: 7.50
- Boston Red Sox: 8.00
- Washington Nationals: 8.50
Joe Ross would likely be generating much more hype were it not for the fact that the Nationals have some of the most talented pitchers in the MLB right now. Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg are both phenomenal, although it may not be long before Ross steps into their starting positions.
With some of the best MLB pitchers to watch in 2017 including Joe Ross, the Nationals are now considered to be a World Series betting favorite with odds of 8.50, according to Intertops.
Carlos Martinez: St. Louis Cardinals
Carlos Martinez made his move into the MLB in 2013, and has quickly become one of the most exciting young pitchers in the sport. He began his 2015 season with an incredible 1.89 ERA, but after allowing 14 runs on 16 hits over two games, this jumped up to 4.73.
Carlos didn’t let those games affect his confidence. He truly came into his own later in the season, earning the longest scoreless-inning streak in the National League. He continued to look fantastic for the rest of the season, and in the beginning of 2017 signed a 5 year, $51 million contract.
There’s no doubt that Carlos Martinez is one of the top MLB pitchers to watch in 2017. He’s only 25 years of age, but is thought by many MLB betting experts to be a future Cy Young winner. Despite the success of Martinez, most online sportsbooks in the US list the Cardinals are slight underdogs to win the World Series this year with odds of 21.00.
Noah Syndergaard: New York Mets
Noah “Thor” Syndergaard made his MLB debut in 2015. He was phenomenal in his first season, ending with an ERA of 3.24 with 166 strikeouts. He continued that success into 2016 with 12 strikeouts including 26 swings and misses in his first game, the most in Mets pitching history.
Noah isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. His first game of 2017 included 7 strikeouts. In early May, US gambling news reported that he suffered a torn lat muscle, but it seems likely he’ll return to the mound later in the season. His absence was a major blow to the Mets, as he’s one of the few pitchers on the team that’s also solid at bat.
The Mets made it into the 2015 World Series, but struggled to find much success in the 2016 post season. As of May 2017, the team is 19-24 with an 11-13 record at home. They have one of the top MLB pitchers to watch in 2017 current sitting on the sidelines, and as a result are a considerable betting underdog to win the World Series with odds of 26.00.
All three of the MLB pitchers to watch in 2017 we listed still have plenty of time to improve. As the season progresses, we’ll get a better idea of which teams are real World Series favorites, but for now you can find a full list of 2017 MLB betting odds at Intertops.
