Unlike most of us who sit around and wonder where it all went wrong, Sebastian Vettel knows precisely. A year on from his crashing out in front of his home crowd, and becoming almost a shadow of his former self, the F1 circus is back at Hockenheim. Sadly, the German Grand Prix odds on Vettel at Unibet, one of the best online sportsbook sites in Germany these days, mean he’s unlikely to beat the curse that has stopped him ever winning at this famous German circuit.

I always put myself under pressure so I can’t be happy if things go wrong.” Sebastian carefully admitted, “I think the main thing is that we keep progressing in the right way, so, for sure, if I get something wrong and do a mistake I can’t be happy with that.” However the mistake a year ago at Hockenheim cost him far more than a single race win, and the German Grand Prix odds on Vettel do not make it very likely he’ll be able to get the fairytale win to expunge the memory.

Since that crash in light rain Sebastian has been struggling to be a Formula One driver in the regular sense. Silly mistakes, poor luck, worse judgment; they’ve all compounded his situation and left him battling with a younger rival at La Scudariain the form of Charles Leclerc. That Charles Leclerc is a better bet on sports in Germany, he gets far better prices than the German Grand Prix odds on Vettel, says much about Sebastian’s position at a Ferrari in a state of flux.

A Year On Seb Still Hasn’t Recovered From Hockenheim Crash

I think things are progressing in the right direction in the bigger picture.” Says Vettel of Ferrari’s intermittent challenge to the ultra-dominant Mercedes, “but the big picture doesn’t interest you if you know where you would like to be.” And the only trouble with that is that Sebastian hasn’t been where he wants to be in quite some time and shows no sign whatsoever of getting there. That’s why the German Grand Prix odds on Vettel are so parsimoniously cruel.

German Grand Prix

  • Date – July 28th 2019
  • Circuit – Hockenheimring
  • Location – Hockenheim, Germany
  • Lap Length – 4.574km
  • Laps – 67
  • Race Length – 306.458km
  • Turns – 16

With the German Grand Prix odds on Vettel hovering at 9/1 the bookies like Unibet may as well have told him to stay at home. Charles Leclerc gets 8/1 in what is nominally the same car, and this is still only his first season at the big boy’s table. That has to smart. Worse still Max Verstappen gets 7/1 which is better than either Ferrari, and it could well be worth taking advantage of German gambling laws to back him if the weather remains warmer than usual.

German Grand Prix Odds On Vettel – 9/1 At Unibet

The heatwave that has stalked Europe should have dissipated somewhat before the race but if the Mercedes have a weakness it is that they don’t like running in overly warm weather, so this does present the possibility the weather will remain hot and they’ll not perform on the day. Not that the bookies are taking any chances. Unibet gives Valterri Bottas an exceedingly generous 5/2 to win at Hockenheim, a price massively shorter than those German Grand Prix odds on Vettel.

2019 German Grand Prix Odds

  • Anyone Else – 1500/1+
  • Lando Norris – 750/1
  • Daniel Ricciardo – 750/1
  • Carlos Sainz – 750/1
  • Pierre Gasly – 150/1
  • Sebastian Vettel – 9/1
  • Charles Leclerc – 8/1
  • Max Verstappen – 7/1
  • Valtteri Bottas – 5/2
  • Lewis Hamilton – 3/5

Favorite to take the win, despite any worries over warm weather the team might have, is Lewis Hamilton at 3/5 on Unibet, one of the best online betting sites in Germany right now. Unless either the heat, or the predicted rain showers arrive mid-race, you’d probably be better off backing those prices than the German Grand Prix odds on Vettel, who will find being back at Hockenheim in the rain so mentally traumatic I personally expect him to crash on the parade lap.
