Gauselmann Group and Casino Baden AG Rewarded with Gaming Licenses for Vienna

Austria seeks to introduce more casinos to its market, while companies battle one another for the limited licenses.

Gambling news reports that the German-Swiss multinational firm Gauselmann Group will partner with Casino Baden AG to create a new state of the art casino in Vienna. The lavish casino will be situated in the city palace of Palais Schwarzenberg, as they try to create a gaming facility of the highest standards.

The chief executive officer of Casino Baden AG, Detlef Brose, believes that palace site will help them establish a sustainable business, considering it provides the “best conditions” for their grand casino plans.

Brose also stated his intentions to open the casino to the public as soon as possible. He hinted that may happen as early as 2015, as development are already underway.

Shift in casino monopoly

There are also news circulating about the opening of another casino in the city, besides the one at the Palais Schwarzenberg. Despite previously having restrictions imposed by Austrian gambling laws, gaming firm Novomatic has now been given permission to expand its gambling services into other areas.

Until now Novomatic has been operating a 400-machine gaming hall in Vienna’s Prater area, however they will now launch a real casino with all the major gaming offers. In addition, they also have the right to open up another casino in the region of Lower Austria.

The new casino developments will mark a shift in the gaming monopoly in Austria. Casinos Austria have previously maintained a stronghold of all the casinos in the central European country, however now they will face stiff competition.
