OLG Takes a New Approach to Reporting its Social Responsibility in the Province of Ontario
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) released its first corporate social responsibility report. Its purpose is to be a “baseline measure” indicating the efforts of the corporation regarding different aspects of social responsibility in the Canadian province of Ontario.
There are no integrated regulations regarding online casinos in Canada at the moment, as evidenced by the set up of a number of unlicensed casinos in recent times, and the government is looking to change the situation.
The topics that will be covered in the new report are strengthening communities, addressing responsible and problem gambling, supporting staff in communities, earning and retaining customers’ trust and reducing the overall impact of problem gambling on the environment.
Rod Phillips, OLG’s president and chief executive officer, commented: “Each year, through this report, we will demonstrate the progress we are making on these efforts and articulate our goals for the coming year.” Some of the OLG’s efforts will help ensure the community observes Canadian gambling laws, while safely enjoying the benefits of the games.
He added: “Ontarians rightly expect OLG to maintain a strong standing as a good corporate citizen and to integrate the values they hold into our culture, policies, programs, and decision making. Modernising OLG is about continuing our tradition of community support – and about doing more.”
Phillips concluded by mentioning some important benefits that the report will offer: “It will enable OLG to provide additional revenues to the province to help fund the operation of hospitals and other provincial priorities. At the same time, it will help to create jobs across Ontario and trigger private sector investment.”
OLG is a Government Business Enterprise created by the Government of Ontario. It provides different gaming entertainment like lotteries, slots and casinos – including Canadian poker rooms, etc. and it operates in a socially responsible manner looking out for the benefit of Ontario’s citizens.
