Employees Comment on the Closing of Atlantic Casino

It was a sad day at the Atlantic Club Casino Hotel, as the legendary establishment closed its doors.

New Jersey reporters paint a desolate picture of the last working day in the state’s most famous casino. Recent gambling news report it was an emotional day for the employees of the legendary establishment, as the casino closed its doors on Monday morning.

Only a couple of gamblers and a few employees stuck around in the last hours before the casino closed and the staff burst into tears as the clock struck 12:00. “No one came to save us”, complained Kathy Buonasorte, who served cocktails for 28 years at the ACH. “I served my last drink at 4 this afternoon. It was incredibly sad”, said Maureen Cohen.

Once a top-earning establishment made famous by commercials starring singer Frank Sinatra, the Atlantic Club Casino Hotel (ACH) is now nothing more than a deserted building.

1,600 people become unemployed

Changes in American gambling laws and competition from neighboring states have made it difficult for Atlantic City to keep up, so the famous establishment filed for bankruptcy in November.

With ACH shutting down, 1,600 people lost their jobs. All safe deposit boxes and drawers have already been emptied. On Wednesday, employees of Tropicana Entertainment will start removing the slot machines and table games which they bought after ACH went out of business, while Caesars Entertainment will get the 800-room hotel.
