The two major online daily fantasy sports companies in the US, DraftKings and FanDuel, have just announced they will merge.

When you think of internet daily fantasy sports sites in the US, you probably think of two names. DraftKings and FanDuel have been industry leaders for years, both sites constantly competing against one another for dominance.

Now that’s all over. US gambling news was broken just yesterday that the two US DFS sites will formally join forces sometime in 2017 in an effort to “better serve customers.” This news has come to a shock for some. DraftKings and FanDuel have spent millions of dollars competing for advertising rights.

Financial details have not yet been announced, but both companies have stated their belief that this merger will be mutually beneficial. By working together, they will save millions on operational costs, and can better pursue new products and website features.

Where in the US can you play online daily fantasy sports?

The legality of internet daily fantasy sports in the US has been a tricky subject. In most states, DFS is allowed, as it is considered a game of skill rather than luck. The states that do ban DFS claim it is unconstitutional, and should be considered the same as traditional sports betting. Online gambling Wisconsin 2016 laws are notable for allowing all major DFS sites to operate.

Chief Executive of DraftKings, Jason Robins, spoke to the media about the partnership, saying, “We have always been passionate about providing the best possible experience for our customers and this merger will help advance our goal of building a transformational global sports entertainment platform.”
