Don’t Bet on Tyson Fury Retiring Anytime Soon

Despite what many in the boxing community are saying, you shouldn’t bet on Tyson Fury leaving boxing in the near future.

It’s been a bizarre year for the former boxing heavyweight champion of the world. First, Tyson Fury shocked the world and made UK gambling news by defeating Wladimir Klitschko via unanimous decision, making one of the best gambling winners stories in history. The celebration was short lived, however, as Fury was stripped of his title for refusing to fight the mandatory number one contender Vyacheslav Glazkov.

Then in June, news broke that Fury was flagged for a potential drug doping violation, an allegation that he vehemently denies. Finally after months of confusing rhetoric, Tyson Fury dropped a bomb by stating he was retiring from the boxing game.

Less than six hours after that statement, the Gypsy King has retracted that statement, and many people are left wondering what his next move will be. The heavyweight boxer has been known to behave erratically, but at this point it seems like a bad idea to bet on Tyson Fury retiring anytime soon.

Will Fury and Klitschko ever rematch?

The rematch between Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko was scheduled almost immediately after their first bout. In that fight, Fury was a considerable underdog, but used his reach and unorthodox style to outpoint the long-time Ukrainian boxing champion.

The betting odds for the rematch came in a bit more even according to most online sportsbooks in the UK. The fluctuated slightly over the months, but most betting sites had the Ukrainian as the favorite to win, despite many putting on bet on Tyson Fury to get the victory a second time. After Fury announced his retirement, most of these sportsbooks scratched their odds for the fight, with the notable exception of Bwin Sports, who list Klitschko as a 7/10 favorite, and Fury as a 15/13 underdog.

Anything can happen, but a bet on Tyson Fury retiring before he gets the chance to prove his validity as champion seems like a bad decision. The Gypsy King still has a lot to prove in this game, and will likely be back once he gets his legal and mental problems behind him.
