State legislators passed a bill that finally ensures that daily fantasy sports sites can operate

legally, so DFS legalized in Virginia formally.

State Governor Terry McAuliffe signed the ‘Fantasy Contests Act’, making DFS legalized in

Virginia. The bill also protects daily fantasy players with some regulations outside the

boundaries of US gambling laws.

DFS legalized in Virginia and doesn’t qualify as gambling

The Fantasy Contests Act makes DFS legalized in Virginia and also ensures that daily fantasy

sports aren’t classified as online gambling. DFS operators need to pay a $50,000

licensing fee and ban users under 18 years of age from playing fantasy sports. Two independent

yearly audits also required for the operators to investigate if they are working within state laws.

DFS employees and relatives from their household will be banned from real-money

competitions. That act will be big for the DFS industry that recently saw FanDuel leaving Texas

and DraftKings and FanDuel having troubles in New York among other states.
