Dems May Have To Ditch Ideals In Favor Of Funding To Beat Trump

He’s promised $2 billion to the campaign even if he’s not the nominee. Currently, around 2/1 at online betting sites in the US like Bovada, he might not be. Certainly few seem to have bet on Michael Bloomberg to be the next President just yet. Cutting an individual path towards power, he’s playing an unorthodox game. This may be precisely what the Democrats need to do to beat Donald Trump. Until Super Tuesday, however, we won’t know for sure, and neither will Mike.
“The conventional wisdom is,” Bloomberg confided having not participated in the first four Democratic races, “Oh you can’t possibly win without them.” He believes this is now in error. “Those are old rules.” And he may be right. His focus on Super Tuesday is a little mercenary, perhaps, but then this will be a mercenary election. Whether that’s enough to have Democrats bet on Michael Bloomberg to be the next President is arguable. Many of them can’t stand him.
They find it hard to understand why to rid the nation of one rich egotistical New Yorker you’d call upon another. Between the idealistic radicals behind Bernie and the moderate idealists backing Buttigieg, they have the gamut of idealism covered. Those who regularly bet on sports in the US will instantly wonder if that’s going to be enough. The odds on Donald Trump would indicate not. A bet on Michael Bloomberg to be the next President is then a bet a different way.
Presidential Election Odds
- Amy Klobuchar – 30/1
- Joe Biden – 25/1
- Pete Buttigieg – 16/1
- Michael Bloomberg – 11/2
- Bernie Sanders – 4/1
- Donald Trump 4/7
Bovada Has All The US Politics Odds You Need
Morals, ethics and ideals are entirely laudable traits. Every politician in the world should have a surfeit of all of them. Should. But they don’t. The new political landscape means you can no longer bet on politics to play by the old rules. There are no more rules. Even facts seem optional. This means instead of a nuanced campaign of ideals the Democrats may find themselves fighting a very blunt war of attrition. This may induce them to bet on Michael Bloomberg to be the next President.
So a bet on Michael Bloomberg to be the next President is to bet that money and pride will be the deciding factors. His $2 billion promise may seem like a war chest of their dreams, but that may not be enough. Trump has his own supporters with deep pockets. A candidate running against him could run dry near the end. Bloomberg would just reach into another pocket. This is why his odds are 2/1 at Bovada. Reality may just bite.
Democratic Nominee 2020
- Elizabeth Warren – 25/1
- Amy Klobuchar – 14/1
- Joe Biden – 10/1
- Pete Buttigieg – 11/2
- Michael Bloomberg – 2/1
- Bernie Sanders – 6/5
Bet On Michael Bloomberg To Be The Next President
Naturally, this would be a massive earthquake in Democratic politics. So the Bernie supporters would whine, the Buttigieg supporters would roll their eyes. It would seem as if the very people standing against it had succumbed to the power of Wall Street. For the Democrats to bet on Michael Bloomberg to be the next President is to make a pact with the devil. The problem is, that could well be the sensible choice if they want to win. Question is; do they? And at what price?
For the Democrats to eschew their idealism in favor of this mercenary cold calculation seems unlikely. Those taking advantage of US gambling laws on sites like Bovada will find Bernie is still 6/5 to win the nomination. However, if enough voters back him on Super Tuesday that could well change. Ditching their ideals behind a smokescreen of populism could be the Democrats’ last best hope to get the White House back in November. Everything else is playing by the old rules.
We take a look at why the Democrats may have to, in the end, bet on Michael Bloomberg to be the next President.
