Danish Lottery Burst into Online Casino Market

National lottery monopoly to expand its online casino offering

Live dealer specialist Evolution Gaming has agreed to a deal with Danish lottery and gambling operator Dansk Licens Spil. The agreement is reported to bear fruit in the form of a new state-owned online casinos in Denmark. Players will have access to a wide range of live dealer games, including blackjack, roulette, baccarat and Texas Hold’Em.

Evolution’s live dealer games will feature both English and Danish-speaking dealers. Soren Schneider, head, head of casino, poker and games at Dansk Licens Spil, issued the following statement:

“Adding Evolution’s world-leading Live Casino will enhance our position as market leader in Denmark…Our dedicated tables in particular will enable us to strengthen our brand online and we are looking forward to provide a 100% unique Danish offering to our customers.”

Denmark’s liberalized market

While Dansk Licens Spil is a state-owned gambling provider, Danish gambling laws are much more liberal than its Scandinavian neighbors and the market is relatively open. The state firm has a monopoly on lotteries, but competing igaming firms are free to apply for licenses to offer sportsbetting and online casino services.

Facing competition from numerous private firms, the move reflects the clear truth that Dansk needed to expand its offering in order to keep up.
