Crazy sports star-robbing trend
Recently, it has become a trend for burglars to break into the houses of famous athletes and their family members in the hope of stealing some cash, jewelry, or other valuables. Burglars know for a fact that the homes of well-paid athletes are full of valuable things. Scroll down for the athletes who have fallen victim to this crazy sports star-robbing trend!
What to Do?
Some athletes have already prepared if this happened to them. For example, they protect their valuables and their family members with dogs. The latter is, unfortunately, necessary because, in several cases, criminals do not shy away from physical violence if they hope to become rich overnight. The best guard dogs are Belgian Malinoises because they train them for the special forces. It looks like athletes will have to come up with more ideas and prepare for the worst because these events can happen at any time.
Money, glamour, and fame certainly have their downsides. Star athletes and their families are not safe because they live their lives in the public eye. Many seemingly irrelevant posts and pictures can serve as a reason for breaking in. Including information about when they are not at home. However, if they happen to be at home, criminals do not shy away from physical violence against players and whoever is in their houses.
Latest Break-Ins
We don’t even have to go very far for a terrifying event! 2023 has barely started when shocking news has already shaken the sports world. Although the robbery happened during the football season, the incident only became public this year.
The Welsh superstar, recently retired Gareth Bale, was shocked to learn that his wife Emma Rhys-Jones’s aunt was robbed by four masked, armed criminals at her home during the 2022 World Cup. Though, according to online gambling sites in the UK, they fled when they didn’t find gold.
There was another case related to the December soccer match, which created quite a stir. The star of the English football team, Raheem Sterling, had to go back home from the tournament in Qatar because his family’s house was broken into while he was preparing for his next games.
The first reports were about armed intruders, but later they said they discovered the theft when the family returned from Qatar. If we take the financial damage caused by the robbery out of the equation, it still must have been terrifying to process.
Obviously, it wasn’t easy to concentrate only on his job, not to mention he missed several matches due to traveling back and forth. Unfortunately, Sterling or Tite are not the only ones. Several other similar incidents have occurred in recent years. It’s scary how many soccer players have been through the same incident. Though not only soccer players but also other star athletes have to deal with intruders. It doesn’t help either that they make a fortune by posting on several social media sites.
Violant and Crazy Sports Star-Robbing Trend
The British cyclist Mark Cavendish also became a victim of burglars. The athlete and his family came face to face with intruders, who even attacked them. This happened when a week before, at the six-day track race in Ghent, he broke two ribs and got a pneumothorax.
First, the intruders beat the athlete with their fists, then one of them held a knife to his throat and threatened to cut it if he didn’t give them his two expensive watches. Thankfully, no one was seriously harmed, but they were shaken by the attack. The burglars eventually left with a Louis Vuitton suitcase and two high-priced watches.
Stealing from Formula 1 Stars!
Charles Leclerc, the Ferrari Formula 1 driver, was involved in this crazy sports star-robbing trend. The robbers took a watch worth 300,000 euros from a French competitor near Livorno last year. Leclerc was walking with his personal trainer, Andrea Ferrari, when a man who claimed to be a Ferrari fan approached the two men under the pretense of taking a picture together.
However, the attacker forced Leclerc to hand over his watch, who complied and then alerted the police. The incident took place in an unlit, dark street in the evening.
He was not the only driver of Formula 1 who got robbed, although Pierre Gasly was not present when the theft happened. Burglars broke into his home in Normandy while the French Formula 1 driver was at the Spanish Grand Prix. The Alpha Tauri pilot asked his followers to contact him and help with information about the robbery. Gasly admitted that the criminals took his high-priced engraved watches, racing equipment, and jewelry.
Crazy Sports Star-Robbing Trend in Tennis
Olympic bronze medalist and two-time Grand Slam tournament winner Czech tennis player Petra Kvitová also went through terrifying moments. A couple of years ago, Kvitova was staying at her home in Prostejov when a burglar appeared in her house, and the incident ended with the attacker injuring the tennis player on her left arm.
They took Kvitova to the hospital after the break-in. In this case, the strange thing is that Kvitova’s spokesperson said that the attack was not directed at the tennis player. Allegedly, the burglar did not know who lived in the house.
Olympic champion Russian tennis player Yelena Veshnina was not very happy when someone stole her pentathlon medals from her apartment near Moscow. The criminals broke into their homes when she and her husband were out having dinner.
The criminals opened the safe, from which they took jewelry and the Olympic gold and silver medals she won in doubles. However, the story became a happy end, as the thieves left the tennis player’s medals near a police station, accompanied by chocolates and a letter of apology. Allegedly, the thieves were big fans of the athlete and did not know who they robbed. If you are also a fan, check out her odds at 22Bet Sportsbook!
Even Combat Athletes Got Attacked!
Last spring, two armed robbers attacked the world champion British boxer Amir Khan on the street. The star athlete was leaving the Sahara Grill restaurant in London with his wife when the criminals struck. After saying goodbye to the staff, they headed for their car parked on the side of the road, but two men approached them, and one of them pointed a gun at the boxer. The robbers took Khan’s 19-carat watch, worth 71,000 pounds, encrusted with rose gold diamonds.
The attackers then got into their car nearby and sped away from the scene. Allegedly, they found out about Khan’s expensive watch on social media and deliberately planned to rob the former world champion in front of the restaurant. There have also been cases where the robbery went wrong, and the attackers regretted going along with the plan.
Three men wanted to rob the house of the 46-year-old kickboxer and MMA fighter Melvin Manhoef last year. However, they did not expect that the wrestler would also be at home.
The retired athlete caught the burglars, who were trying to escape from the house in a car. However, Manhoef came after them, ran their car off the road, broke the car window with his bare hands, and took them out, then put the three men on the ground, who were so scared that they did not even attempt to run away until the police arrived.
Even though it’s rare, this case could have ended badly. The saddest part of it all is that it really does seem like the number of new sports star robbery cases is endless. However, since the most popular pro athletes on Instagram make millions with their posts, it is not likely to change.
