The act of gambling has been around for centuries and even millennia. It has also been popular since settlement in Chile. There was one period in which gambling was outlawed, but then horseracing was still permitted, and very popular.
Today the Chileans have obviously realized the benefits of accepting, permitting and regulating gambling in all forms. Chilean gambling laws are very loose, but they thoroughly and effectively regulate casinos that are prevalent.
Recently, the nation liberalized its stance on gambling even further and gave a big thumbs up to the construction of 10 new casinos. According to estimates, these casino will generate up to $353 million and up to 4,400 jobs in the area. In the difficult situation that this country has found itself in via the economic crisis, this is very important.
The new casinos are expected to enhance tourism to Chile and to swell public funding tremendously. There will be a 20% tax on all of the facilities. The new revenue will be split between both the municipal and regional governments. The doors to the new businesses must all be opened within two years and all of the money raised will be attributed to development projects.
Though the government doesn’t license companies for online gambling, there are many online casinos in Chile that players can access. The general attitude towards internet gambling in Chile is the same as it is toward land-based gambling, loose and permissive.
Through allowing gambling in all forms and, in fact embracing it, Chile has been able to persevere. With all profits being invested in development projects and thousands of jobs being created, this was, without a doubt, a great move for the nation.
