Germany go up against Algeria for a place in the quarter-finals and a very possible encounter with France.
The second World Cup match tonight is the Germany v Algeria affair. Germany have run into some difficulties in the group after humiliating Portugal 4-0. Die Manschaft only managed a draw against Ghana, and due to the group standings, they could’ve missed out on the last 16 if they would’ve lost against USA.
But Joachim Low’s team fulfilled expectation of punters betting at online sportsbooks in Germany and beat the Americans 1-0 and both teams went through, thanks to Portugal beating Ghana with 2-1.
Germany are of course still one of the favorites to lift the trophy in two weeks’ time priced at 5.00 from Bovada. Their striker, Thomas Muller is also one of the favorites to win the Golden Boot with 4.33 odds, right behind Lionel Messi for Argentina.
Road to the knockouts
The 4-0 win against Portugal set Germany as one of the favorite squads to win the World Cup, right next to hosts Brazil and another favorite – Argentina. You don’t have to be a World Cup predictions expert to understand why Germany are the huge favorites to win tonight.
Germany will have to step over Algerian hurdle in order to make it to the quarters
• Online sportsbooks in Germany
are full of exciting betting offers
• Algeria have made it through to the last 16 for the first time ever
• The winner of this match will most probably play France in the quarters
The pretty intense game against Ghana revealed weak spots in German squad, but Joachim Low was able to make the necessary adjustments to the team, and Die Manschaft looked much better against USA. Hopefully, they will keep the same form for tonight’s game as well.
The manager and all those who bet on sports in Germany are hoping Thomas Muller will stick to his wonderful goal scoring habit. Naturally, other German players are expected to improve their form for the upcoming important matches. Miroslav Klose has already reached Ronaldo’s World Cup scoring record and will certainly be looking to beat it in the remaining matches.
Algeria have nothing to lose in the upcoming match, since they have already exceeded all expectations. They have led against Belgium, but were beaten 1-2 in the end, then they went on to beat South Korea 4-2. And only needed a draw against Russia to make it through to the last 16 for the first time ever. Russia took an early lead, but Algerians managed to equalize in the middle of the second half and held on to the tie.
Vahid Halilhodzic has built a completely different team from that which came to the 2010 World Cup and didn’t score a single goal. And of course they have a lot of talent on their side including Abdelmoumene Djabou, Yacine Brahimi, Sofiane Feghouli, and Islam Slimani.
Comments from the managers
Algeria’s Vahid Halilhodzic said the following: “When you see the Italy, England, Portugal and Spain already eliminated, it is exceptional to be in the 16 best teams. Now, Germany has the right to lose. I said again that if in 1982 an Algerian team can beat a great team of Germany, then why can’t we?
“
He went on to add: “If we lose, we will congratulate them because they will have been better and if we win everyone will appreciate this Algeria team a little more. Now, we are confident in our chances and we know we can make something if we are at our best. We will have to be up for the fight on Monday.”
Joachim Low for Germany also commented the game: “We must remain focused and on our toes because any complacency will be punished. I took a look at Algeria yesterday for an hour and I know we’re up against a very compact side who run a lot and are aggressive. I’ve rarely seen a team defend so vehemently, but still attack with purpose. Their whole country is euphoric, so we’re up against strong opponents.”
Betting on the game and the teams’ form
Germany boast a pretty good form coming into the last 16: D W W D W including the 1-0 win over USA. While Algeria have slightly less shining statistics: W W L W D with their last match against Russia ending in a 1-1 draw.
Germany will have to do without injured Lukas Podolski, but there are no other injuries and no suspensions on Joachim Low’s team. They will most probably start with the following line-up: Neuer, Boateng, Mertesacker, Hummels, Howedes, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Ozil, Muller, and Gotze.
Vahid Halilhodzic has no injuries or suspensions to deal with, so the whole roster is at his disposal for the upcoming match. Algerian line-up will most probably me made up of: M’Bohli, Mesbah, Belkalem, Halliche, Mandl, Bentaleb, Djabou, Medjani, Brahimi, Feghouli, and Slimani.

Algeria are given 11.00 odds to produce a major surprise, while a tie after 90 minutes will pay at 5.50.
