BMW achievements in motor sport: Formula 1

During the era spanning from the 1980s to the 2000s, BMW initially ventured into Formula 1 by providing engines to teams such as Brabham and Benetton. With the former, they managed to win the 1983 season’s drivers’ championship as Brabham-BMW, courtesy of Nelson Piquet. Later, in the late 1990s and early 2000s, BMW forged a successful partnership with Williams, resulting in notable achievements, including race wins and championship contention, with notable drivers like Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya at the helm.

Following their collaboration with Williams, BMW transitioned to a new phase with the acquisition of the Sauber team in 2006, forming BMW Sauber. This period saw them maintain their competitive edge, epitomised by Robert Kubica securing their inaugural victory in the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix. However, despite their prowess on the track, BMW withdrew from Formula 1 after the 2009 season, citing the global financial downturn as a determining factor.

Even since 2009, BMW has not returned to Formula 1 and is not even considering coming back, despite their popularity at 22BET. They are enjoying various successes in other racing series. Whatever, their mark on Formula 1 remains one of the most significant, especially as an engine supplier.

DTM Series

BMW returned to DTM in 2012 after a 20-year hiatus, and since then, they have been one of the leading contenders in the series. In their comeback season, BMW claimed both the drivers’ and manufacturers’ championships, showcasing their competitiveness right from the start. The same continued in 2013 as BMW won again despite a tough rivalry with Audi.

In subsequent years, BMW has continued to be a force to be reckoned with in DTM. They have won numerous races and consistently finished near the top of the standings. While they have faced stiff competition from rivals such as Audi and Mercedes-Benz, BMW has remained a prominent contender, often fighting for victories and podium finishes.

BMW achievements in motor sport: Formula BMW

Formula BMW served as an entry-level racing series for single-seater cars, similar to Formula Ford, aimed at providing aspiring kart racers with their initial exposure to car racing. BMW Motorsport introduced this new formula in 2001, with the inaugural championship held in Germany in 2002. At the culmination of each season, selected participants from various series convened for the World Final, offering the victor a chance to test a Formula One car.

Beginning in 2011, BMW opted to discontinue support for the Pacific and Europe series, directing focus towards the Formula BMW Talent Cup. This Talent Cup, the last remaining Formula BMW championship, concluded after the 2013 season. Nowadays, you can’t find it at online sportsbooks in Australia, but you can bet on F1 and other car racing events online.

Endurance Championships and M3 GTR

BMW achievements in motor sport expanded to endurance racing, including the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans and the IMSA Championship. BMW has achieved success with cars like the BMW M3 and BMW V12 LMR, winning Le Mans and other endurance races. They hold a record for the most wins at 24 Hours of Nurburgring and 24 Hours of Spa. McLaren F1 GTR also used BMW engines to win 38 races and 3 constructor championships in GT1 category in 1995, 1996, and 1997.

One of the most iconic BMW endurance racing cars is the BMW M3, which has seen success in various competitions around the world. The most popular version of M3 is the GTR, which has gained a cult following in the gaming community. The BMW M3 GTR is an iconic car in the gaming world, mainly known for its appearance in the “Need for Speed” series. It gained widespread recognition after being featured as the hero car in “Need for Speed: Most Wanted” (2005). To this day, fans of the franchise recreate the GTR livery in real life.

In recent years, BMW has been involved in endurance racing with cars like the BMW M8 GTE. The M8 GTE competed in the US in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), one of the most popular events at online gambling sites in Australia, and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. This car has been developed specifically for endurance racing, featuring advanced aerodynamics, lightweight construction, and robust engines.
