Even though this year was a strange and shortened season with many events being canceled, we could still witness some great moments.
Everyone thought that the 2020 Olympic Games would be the biggest sporting event of the year. But unfortunately, it had to be postponed just like many other tournaments. After a three-month break luckily most sports could re-start again in the summer. Thanks to that we could still watch most of the biggest sport events from home. Like the Formula 1 and MotoGP world championships, the US Open and the French Open, or the Champions League. Let’s see the winners of these events now.
Biggest Sports Victories in 2020 include Hamilton’s 7th F1 World Championship Title
One of the greatest achievements of 2020 belongs to Lewis Hamilton who won his seventh world title this year equaling the record of Michael Schumacher. The British driver also broke the German legend’s record of most wins (92) and holds the record with 95 now. He was as confident as before winning 10 out of 17 races in the season. Thanks to his superb driving skills and almost perfect racing car. Mercedes also won their seventh consecutive Constructors’ Championship titles becoming the first team to do so. Online sportsbooks in the UK mention Hamilton and Mercedes as the biggest favorites for the 2021 F1 season again.
In MotoGP, the 2020 season was a much more surprising year with several new race winners and podium finishers. After the 6-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez’s accident the race became wide open with several candidates for the title. In the end, Spanish Jian Mir won his first world championship title ahead of Franco Morbidelli and Alex Rins. His victory was also the first title for a Suzuki rider since 2000. While across the ocean, in the 2020 NASCAR season Chase Elliott also won his first title following his great performance in the playoff. The 25-year old is mentioned now in the top favorites for the new season.
Unbeaten Bayern, Premier League Champions Liverpool
Bayern Munich’s sensational performance in the 2019-20 Champions League season also belongs to the biggest sports victories in 2020. They won the league after winning all of their games and defeating Paris Saint-Germain in the final 1-0 in the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon. One of their biggest victories was their 8-2 win against FC Barcelona in the quarter-finals. Besides their Champions League trophy, Bayern also won the Bundesliga and German Cup titles, becoming the second team to win the treble twice. Fans could see brilliant performances from all team members, including Robert Lewandowski, who was voted the Best Player of the Year by FIFA and UEFA.
While in the Premier League Liverpool FC won their first title since 1990. Jurgen Klopp’s side was also unstoppable most of the season and won the league with a massive, 18-points lead ahead of Manchester City. They lead the table again but in a much more balanced season, only three points ahead of current second Leicester City. Online gambling sites in the UK offer the smallest odds for their victory at the end of the season. In the other top European leagues, there weren’t any big surprises. Juventus won their 9th consecutive title, In La Liga Real Madrid became the champions and in France, PSG won again.
