World Boxing Super Series, also known as Champion League of boxing is a world-wide professional boxing event held by Comosa AG. The first season of the series started in 2017 with two weight classes- cruiserweight and super-middleweight. Now the super-middleweight category has been divided into bantamweight and super lightweight. Even though this year is going to be their only second season, WBSS has already gained popularity among boxing fans. Enthusiasts all over the world bet on world boxing super series on fighters they seem worthy of lifting the Muhammad Ali trophy.
This year’s WBSS has already come to an end for the bantamweight and super-lightweight classes. Josh Taylor beat his opponent Regis Prograis in the lightweight final. As for the bantamweight, Naoya Inoue has won the Ali trophy by a unanimous decision against Nonito Donaire. There’s no doubt that the season conclusion- cruiserweight final is going to be exciting, to say the least. Latvia’s Mairis Briedis will fight against Cuba’s Yuniel Dorticos for the Muhammad Ali trophy and a grand prize that comes with it.
Finalists of the cruiserweight- who to bet on world boxing super series?
Now that the finals coming in less than a month, it’s time you should start researching about the finalists. This year’s Briedis vs Yuniel Trophy showdown is going to be held in Arena Riga, Latvia. With the Alexander Usyk moving to the heavyweight, the new heir of the cruiserweight champion will be crowned on this iconic night.
Even though Mairis Briedis is proving to be people’s favorite when it comes to betting on the world boxing super series, online sportsbooks in the US are expecting a fair fight. Both boxers are on top of their weight class and are in their best forms. However, on the 21st of March, only one of them will win the famous Muhammad Ali trophy and a 50 million dollar prize. You can check the boxer’s winning odds on Bovada, and read the latest review about Bovada Sportsbook here.
Can Briedis win back his lost championship this year?
Fans of the professional boxing have been placing their bet on the 35 years old Latvian. He has won the WBC cruiserweight champion title from April 2017 to January 2018 and WBO title in 2019. With this, he has become the first Latvian to win the world’s professional boxing title. During his entire professional boxing career, he has lost only once to legendary Oleksandr Usyk.
This inspiring career of his was enough to get him in the WBSS. Only eight boxers who have won world titles or ranked in the top list of their weight classes. Briedis has participated in the first season of WBSS and fought in the undercard of the finals game. Also, he was to play in the finals in case any of the finalists- Usyk or Gassiev couldn’t compete.
He seems to be holding his form in as perfect shape as usual in this season too. He has earned his place in the finals by defeating Polish fighter Krzysztof Glowacki in the semi-finals by knock out. In one of the recent interviews, he mentioned that he’s eager to come back to the Arena Riga for the finals in his home country.
“KO doctor” Yuniel Dorticos is confident about the finals
Yuniel Dorticos is a Cuban professional boxer, who has held WBA cruiserweight championship title from 2017-2018 and interim title in 2016. After he lost three times consecutively in national championships, he has started his career in professional boxing. However, it seems like the curse of being the second-best has not left him yet. He’s in second place in the list of the best active boxers in the cruiserweight. Ironically, his opponent of this year’s WBSS finals Briedis is at the top.
However, he seems to be pretty confident about the finals game. With a 3.2 odds at bet on World Boxing Super Series finals, the online gambling sites in the US seem to be thinking otherwise. However, Yuniel has promised to show his opponent Briedis, who has better odds of 2.1 at Bovada, why he’s called the KO doctor. He has earned this nickname thanks to his amazing knockout records.
