Juventus are the best team in Serie A and have been for almost a decade. However, as they bid for another successful title defense, here are some pointers as to why Juventus will not win Serie A this season. Inter are up and coming as favorites to de-throne ‘The Old Lady’ under former Juve boss, Antonio Conte. Will they be up for the task? We take a look.
Going into the Serie A season, Juventus are reigning champions and have won the league eight years in a row. However, ‘I Bianconeri’ are playing for new Italian manager Maurizio Sarri, who has never won a league before. His only trophy came last season with Chelsea when he won the Europa League.
On the other hand, Inter Milan are looking a new side after appointing Antonio Conte as head coach. Just like Sarri, Conte has also managed Chelsea, winning the Premier League and FA Cup in his two years at the London club.
3 Reasons Why Juventus Will Not Win Serie A
Although Juventus are favorites to win the Scudetto according to online sportsbook sites in Italy, there are quite a few reasons to doubt them. This year, ‘Le Zebre’ seems less of a sure thing than usual.
As it stands, Juventus are in first place after 12 games with 32 points. Inter Milan are only one point behind Juventus as both teams have won 10 games. The one loss which Milan suffered was at the hands of Juventus at Inter’s home stadium, the San Siro. Despite that defeat, Nerazzurri are right behind Bianconeri and could be on their way to the top.
1- Juventus Back Inexperienced Sarri for Hot Seat
Maurizio Sarri has an incredible football knowledge, especially when taking into consideration he was never a professional player. The former banker developed his reputation with Italian top-flight team Napoli and guided them to a second-place finish in 2018. His famous ‘Sarriball’ style of play, which has also been called ‘liquid football’ for the fast movement from players off the ball, has received praise from many pundits in England and Italy.
However, Sarri will have to implicate this philosophy at the club which may take more than one season. Let us not forget, his spell in England lasted for only a year and despite winning a trophy, the Italian received criticism from several fans.
Although Unibet Sportsbook backs Juventus to win a ninth successive Scudetto at 1.40, could this be the year Juventus will not win Serie A?
2- Three-time Serie A Winner Antonio Conte at the Helm with Inter
Another factor which could lead to the downfall of Juventus is the appointment of Antonio Conte at Inter. The Italian tactician had previously won Serie A in his first season with Juventus. Not only that, but he had become the first manager to win it without a domestic loss. Conte went on to win two more Scudettos with Bianconeri before resigning to manage the Italian national team.
Antonio Conte is a born winner. He won the Premier League with Chelsea in his first season in England as well. He may replicate such fortunes this year with Inter. Not only that, but Conte has landed Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United. It is well known that the Italian is a long-time admirer of Belgium’s all-time leading goal scorer. If Conte manages to get the best out of Lukaku, the Serie A is there for the taking for the Nerazzurri at odds 3.25.
3- Juventus Will Not Win Serie A if Ronaldo Doesn’t Hit Form
If you are not convinced by Sarri’s inexperience and the qualities which Antonio Conte brings to Inter, perhaps a look at the in-form forwards may sway your belief. Romelu Lukaku has hit the ground running with La Beneamata. From his 11 appearances, the forward has bagged 9 goals and is second on the scoring charts. Should he continue his fine performances all year long, Lukaku will finish as top goals scorer and can help Inter clinch their first Serie A since 2010.
The other side of the story is how Juventus is desperate for their star-player to score them some more goals. Cristiano Ronaldo has only claimed five goals this season. In his last two appearances, Ronaldo was substituted off by Sarri, much to his disappointment. If Ronaldo does not pick up his socks, Bianconeri will suffer more and could fall out of the top spot. Online sportsbook news in Italy has listed Ronaldo with odds 10.00 to finish with the golden boot. Lukaku has been valued at odds 5.50 at Unibet Sportsbook.
Inter Milan are on their way to the top with Antonio Conte leading the charge. It is in his capacity to win the league in his first season, as he has done with Juventus and Chelsea. As for Sarri, having never won a league his task will be all the more difficult. The fans expect success which could be his downfall. Although they have been so successful in the past, Juventus will not win Serie A this year. Other teams in the league are sick of the “Juve Fatigue”, as the club have dominated the Italian division over the years. The changing of the guard could come this year to Conte’s ‘Black and Blues’.
