One of the main build-up races ahead of this year’s Tour de France, the Criterium du Dauphine is held this week, between 5-12 June. Richie Porte won the tournament last year but the American rider will skip the event this year. Unlike 3-time Vuelta winner Primoz Roglic who is the main favorite of the 2022 Criterium du Dauphine predictions. But fans can support other great riders too from Wout Van Aert to Tao Geoghegan-Hart.
The Criterium du Dauphine is an eight-day stage race in the Southeastern part of France. It is held at the beginning of June so it’s one of the last opportunities to prepare for the Tour de France. The route is set in the Rhone-Alpes regions and often includes tough climbs, like the Mont Ventoux or the Col du Galibier. This year’s edition also features two mountain stages on the last two days, along with five easier hilly stages and an individual time trial. No surprise that the previous winners of this tournament often went on to win the Tour de France as well. Like Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome, and Geraint Thomas. Ineos rider Richie Porte won last year’s Criterium du Dauphine but he won’t compete this time. Unlike other top riders from Primoz Roglic to Brandon McNulty.
2022 Criterium du Dauphine predictions favor Jumbo riders, Roglic and Vingegaard
Primoz Roglic missed last year’s event but he will use the race now as a preparation for this year’s Tour de France. The Slovenian cyclist is the top favorite of online sportsbooks in France to win this event. He has the odds of 1.57 to get his second trophy of the season. Roglic won the 2022 Paris-Nice in March. But he was only 8th in the Tour of the Basque Country in April due to a knee injury. He hasn’t raced too much since but returns back now in the Criterium. In order to get more racing experience ahead of the most important event of his season. Roglic is assisted by strong riders in the Jumbo team like Jonas Vingegaard and Wout Van Aert.
Vingegaard finished second in this year’s Tirreno-Adriatico and won the La Drome Classic. The 25-year-old Danish rider was the runner-up in last year’s Tour de France, which makes him a really strong contender. His main task now can be to assist Roglic but he might get the win himself. In the 2022 Criterium du Dauphine predictions his odds to do so are 9.00. The third Jumbo rider with a good chance of winning is Wout Van Aert. Even though the Belgian is not a real GC contender, he can do well both in sprints and in the climbs. But his overall victory in a stage race would be a surprise though.
Favorites from other top teams like McNulty and Caruso
Even though the big rival of Roglic, Tadej Pogacar is not competing in the race, his UAE teammate, Brandon McNulty does. The American cyclist won a stage in this year’s Paris-Nice and finished second in the Volta ao Algarve. He is a young talent as well who can do well in the mountain stages and even in the time trial. McNulty’s odds to get the overall win are 15.00. Another strong team in the race is Bahrain Victorious with riders like Damiano Caruso and Jack Haig. Caruso was the runner-up in last year’s Giro d’Italia while he won the Giro di Sicilia this year.
His Australian teammate, Haig was third in the 2021 Vuelta, and sixth in this year’s Paris-Nice. Online gambling sites in France offer the odds of 21.00 for both riders’ victory. French team AG2R Citroen has his hopes in Ben O’Connor, who performed well in last year’s Tour de France. The Australian finished fourth there. While his best result in this race is an 8th-place finish from last year. Ineos Grenadiers riders usually belong to the top favorites in all major events. But their team leader, Tao Geoghegan-Hart doesn’t seem to be in his strongest form. We can’t forget though that the British cyclist won the 2020 Giro d’Italia. And can rely on great teammates like Ethan Hayter and Filippo Ganna. His odds to win in France now are 26.00 on 22Bet.
