The last major tournament of the 2022 LPGA Tour, the Women’s British Open is held this week, between 4-7 August at Muirfield in Scotland. 144 players will compete for the major title and their share of the $6,8 million prize fund. Anna Nordqvist is the defending champion and she will compete again this year. Along with top players of the world rankings, Nelly Korda and Lydia Ko. Both of them are mentioned as the top favorites in the 2022 AIG Women’s Open prediction.
The first Women’s Open was held 46 years ago, in 1976, but it only became a major championship in 2001. Each year it is organized at different venues. This year Murfield will host it for the first time in the tournament’s history. It is a legendary course that has already hosted 16 Open Championship, Ryder and Walker Cups, and other tournaments.
Now the best 144 women player will compete on the course, including 11 former champions. And highly-ranked players from the world rankings from the world No1 Jin Young Ko to American world No3 Nelly Korda. Swedish Anna Nordqvist is the defending champion who won her third major title last year and will try to defend it this weekend.
2022 AIG Women’s Open Prediction Mention Ko and Korda as Top Favorites
Nelly Korda and Lydia Ko have been offered the same odds, +1100.00 by online sportsbooks in the US to win the last major of the season. It might surprise some fans even though they are in third and fourth place in the world rankings. The young American had to miss a few months due to arm surgery.
She returned back in June and took part in the US Women’s Open where she finished T8. Just like in the previous major of the year, at the Evian Championship last month. Korda is a great player but might need more time to get back to her top form.
Ko started the year with a win at Boca Rio but has very mixed results since. The 25-year-old New Zealander got six top 5 finishes in her last eight appearances, including a T3 finish at the Evian Championship. But she was only T46 at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in June. Ko’s best result at the Women’s Open was a third-place finish in 2015.
But in recent years she couldn’t repeat this performance. She might do it now according to the 2022 AIG Women’s Open prediction. The top favorites are followed by South Korean Hyo-Joo Kim who has the odds of +1200.00 to win her second major title. The first is from the 2014 Evian Championship. While her more recent LPGA Tour win is from the 2022 Lotte Championship in April.
Former Champions and Other Major Winners Can Also Fight for the Title
Canadian Brooke Henderson won this year’s Evian Championship and is also mentioned among the favorites. Even though she hasn’t got any top 10 finish at this event out of her seven appearances. Another major winner of the season, the Australian Minjee Lee has the same odds, +1600.00 to win at Muirfield.
The world No2 finished third in the British Open in 2020 and can perform well again based on her recent results. As the 26-year-old also won the 2022 Cognizant Founders Cup besides her victory at the US Women’s Open. And she finished T2 at the Women’s PGA Championship.
The current world-ranking leader, Jin Young Ko was 4th in the US Women’s Open. But she finished only T30 and T8 in the following two majors. Now online gambling sites in the US offer the odds of +1800.00 for her victory. A former British Open champion, Georgia Hall has good memories from this event. After winning it in 2018 and finishing second last year.
The English player finished T8 at the Evian Championship which was her best result this season. Now her odds to get her third LPGA Tour title are +2500.00. While the defending champion’s odds to defend her title are +4500.00. Anna Nordqvist won her first title at last year’s event four years after her last win. The Swedish player has only one top 10 finish this year from the US Women’s Open. But she can play well again at another major tournament.
