  • 2021 Welsh Open takes place in Newport between 15-21 February
  • It is one of the first event to be held outside Milton Keynes
  • 4-time winner O’Sullivan and world No1 Trump is in the top favorites

The 2021 Welsh Open is taking place next week, between the 15th and 21st of February in Newport, Wales. The tournament is the 10th ranking event of the 2020-21 season where all top players will compete. Including world No1 Judd Trump who is the top favorite in the 2021 Welsh Open winner odds. But the defending champion, Shaun Murphy can win again just like all other favorites.

The first Welsh Open was held in 1992, this will be the 30th edition of the event. It is part of the Home Nations Series and also of the European Series. John Higgins has the most victories, he could win the open five times. But Ronnie O’Sullivan has also won here four times. Shaun Murphy is the defending champion after he defeated Kyren Wilson 9-1 in last year’s final. While Mark Williams is the only Welsh player who could win the tournament so far, back in 1996 and 1999.

128 players will battle for the Ray Reardon trophy and £70,000 prize at Celtic Manor Resort which will host the event for the first time. Surely the new location will be refreshing for the players with almost every tournament being held at the Marshall Arena, in Milton Keynes. The resort has also hosted two golf tournaments last summer with similar conditions but will stage a professional snooker tournament for the first time.

2021 Welsh Open winner odds favor Trump to get his first victory

World number one Judd Trump is the top favorite again to win the event with the odds of 3.50. Looks like bookmakers expect him to win every event even though he hasn’t got any victory in Wales yet. But of course it is understandable after seeing Trump’s brilliant form. He has won 4 tournaments this season and finishes twice as runner-up. His last triumph came in the German Masters held in Milton Keynes two weeks ago. There he defeated Jack Lisowski 9-2 with another confident performance.

2021 Welsh Open winner odds
Let’s play!

In Wales his main rival can be Ronnie O’Sullivan again who has already won four times here. The current world champion hasn’t won any tournament this season yet, though he was close to it on two occasions. In the last few events he wasn’t playing that well though he won four games back-to-back against Joe Perry and Kyren Wilson in the Champions League.  Now online sportsbooks in the UK offer the odds of 5.00 for his fifth victory in their 2021 Welsh Open winner odds.

Robertson and Selby are also in the favorites

It is really a full house in Newport with all top ranked players competing. Like the UK Championship winner and world No2 Neil Robertson who has the odds of 6.00 to win his second trophy this season. The Australian player has also won the event twice before, the last time in 2019 when he defeated Stuart Bingham in the final. Robertson will start against Mark King who has reached the final of the Welsh Open in 1997.

Online gambling sites in the UK mention Mark Selby as well within the favorites. The three-time world champion has the odds of 7.00 to go all the way. He has also won here once before in 2008 and reached the final one more time. After winning the 2021 Scottish Open, Selby can get his second victory in the Home Nations Series. While the most successful player in the open’s history, John Higgins has the odds of 17.00 on bet365.  He reached the final of the 2021 Masters not long ago after defeating Mark Allen, Ronnie O’Sullivan and David Gilbert. Even though he lost the final against Chinese Yan Bingtao, it was a promising performance from the experienced player.
