Simon Yates won the race last year and who try to defend his title
The Race of the Two Seas, or the Tirreno-Adriatico by its official name will be held this week, between the 10th and 16th of March. The Italian race is a great way to prepare for Giro d’Italia so several top cyclists are taking part in it. Like 2020 Tour de France winner Tadej Pogacar who is in the top favorites in the 2021 Tirreno-Adriatico winner odds.
The first Tirreno-Adriatico race was held in 1966 over three stages. Now the tournament has seven stages including flat and hilly ones. It is part of the UCI World Tour with several top cyclists taking part in it every year. As we can see in the list of former winners which include Vincenzo Nibali, Alberto Contador or Nairo Quintana. Simon Yates is the defending champion who won the race last September after it was postponed from its original date. Now the race is back in its original date just like Yates who will try to defend his title. But he won’t have an easy job in the field of top riders. Including Tadej Pogacar, Egan Bernal and Geraint Thomas, all former Tour de France winners. Some of the best sprinters will also compete from Caleb Ewan to Elia Viviani. While Peter Sagan will make his season debut at the race.
2021 Tirreno-Adriatico winner odds favor Pogacar in strong field
Tadej Pogacar has been in top form already after winning the first event of this season, the 2021 UAE Tour. The young Slovenian is mentioned as the top favorite by online sportsbooks in Italy to win this race as well with the odds of 2.75. Pogacar is the winner of last year’s Tour de France, where he also won the young rider and mountains classification beside the yellow jersey at the age of only 21. Now he will try to continue his winning streak and finish on top of this prestigious tournament.
Where Ineos rider Egan Bernal can be one of his biggest rivals with the odds of 4.98 to win the race. The Columbian has also won the Tour de France in 2019 and seems to be back in form after a disappointing last season. As he finished third at the Tour de la Provance this February and third at the Strade Bianche last weekend. On the latter Bernal managed to beat Pogacar as well who finished in 7th place. Which can be an encouraging sign for the 24-year-old cyclist. Just like the quality of his team where we can also find another Tour de France winner, Geraint Thomas. The British cyclist might not be in his best form yet, but he finished here as a runner-up last year. Now his odds to get an even better result is 23.00 in the 2021 Tirreno-Adriatico winner odds.
The world champion and last year’s winner are also in the favorites
Julian Alaphilippe is the current road racing world champion who is more specialized in one-day races. But the Quick-Step rider can do well in longer tournaments as well, as he proved in the 2019 Tour de France where he finished in 5th place. He seems to be in great shape as well after finishing second in this year’s Tour de la Provence and Strade Bianche as well. If the French will have the legs again for the mountains, he can achieve another great result here. He has the odds of 7.50 to actually win the race.
Another one-day specialist, Wout van Aert also competed in the 2021 Strade Bianche and finished 4th at the end. The Belgian wants to win new kinds of races after his successes in cyclo-cross and one-day classics. While last year’s race winner, Simon Yates will try to defend his title. With online gambling sites in Italy offering him the odds of 15.00 to do so. The British rider hasn’t competed much since his victory last September, but he is planning to ride in the 2021 Giro d’Italia. So this race can be a perfect preparation for him.
