Both Wout van Aert and Julian Alaphilippe will compete in this year’s Amstel Gold Race while the 2019 winner Mathieu van der Poel will skip the event. In the first spring classics we can find several other top riders in the starting list from Primoz Roglic to Jakob Fuglsang. Who are all mentioned in the favorites in the 2021 Amstel Gold Race winner odds.

The Amstel Gold Race means the beginning of the spring classics. Where usually climbers get the victory instead of the favorites of the cobbled classics. It all seemed to have changed in recent years with the appearance of multi-talents van Aert and van der Poel who can perform well in all kinds of races. Van der Poel won the last race in 2019 following the cancellation of last season’s event. He won’t compete this time which gives a great opportunity for his biggest rivals to grab the victory. But several other top cyclists will also take part in the prestigious race. Which is also part of the 2021 UCI World Tour. Even though the race this year will be shorter than usual and ‘only’ 216,75 km, it will still include tough climbs and fast descents offering chances for breaks and getaways.

2021 Amstel Gold Race winner odds predict a tight race between van Aert and Alaphilippe

Wout van Aert won this year’s Gent-Wevelgem, another one-day classic in Belgium three weeks ago. He also finished as a runner-up in the 2021 Tirreno-Adriatico and the Brabantse Pijl this week. The Belgian rider is in superb form as he also has a third-place finish from the 2021 Milan-San Remo. Beside a 4th place from the 2021 Strade Bianche. Very impressive list which makes van Aert the top favorite in this race. Online sportsbooks in the Netherlands offer the odds of 4.75. for his victory.

The absence of van der Poel also opens up the way for the reigning world champion, Julian Alaphilippe to win his first race of the season. The Quick-Step rider finished second in the Strade Bianche but couldn’t get close to the podium in the other races. The French rider should do better in the mountains. Especially as Alaphilippe was close to winning here in 2019. When he led the race with Jakob Fuglsang almost until the end. But van der Poel took them over just before the finish line. Now his odds to cross the line first is 6.50 in the 2021 Amstel Gold Race winner odds.

Roglic, Pidcock and Fuglsang in other top favorites

Van Aert’s teammate at Jumbo Visma, the two-time Vuelta winner Primoz Roglic won this year’s Tour of the Basque Country. Which surely boosted his confidence following his poor luck in the 2021 Paris-Nice. Where he was also leading until the last stage when he was involved in three crashes finishing only in 15th place at the end. Roglic will make his debut in the Amstel Gold Race this season but following his form the Slovenian can finish in the top easily. He has the odds of 9.00 to do so by online gambling sites in the Netherlands.

British rider Tom Pidcock has joined Ineos this year but has already got some great results for the team. He finished fifth in the Strade Bianche and 3rd in the Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne classics. While he won the 2021 Brabantse Pijl this week defeating van Aert in the final sprint. The 21-year-old rider will be joined by his more experienced teammates like Richard Carapaz and Tao Geoghegan Hart who can all help him to achieve another success. Jakob Fuglsang from Astana  will also try to get his first victory of the season. He was close to winning here two years ago and the hilly terrain should be in his favor again.  Now his odds to win the race is 26.00 on bet365.
